1
Bayern get the game underway.
Craig Leask writes: "Watching this exciting tie from the USA will no doubt provide an entertaining match to all. It's finally good to see two teams who match each other in terms of ability, skill and the desire to win the competition. They both have players who can have an off day yet come up with the winning goal. Whilst I predict real Madrid to win it over the course of the two legs (not by much) I predict a draw tonight at the Allianz Arena and Real Madrid to seal the passage to the final with a win at the Bernabeu....... Hopefully where they will face Chelsea."
Farah Arbab writes: "Very interesting semi final 1st leg in Germany. Both teams have a weaker defend but strong stricking force. Cant see either of the team winning this leg. Goals will be scored in this match and giving away goals advantage to visitors. Couple of goals hence 2-2 final score."
Ben Gleeson writes: "I think the two back 4's will be the key difference between the teams tonight. There isn't much to seperate Bayern and Reals front 6 (Bayerns front 3 are better than Madrids front 3 in my opinion) but Real do have a much better backline. Bayern have really struggled this season domestically with average, slow centre backs and I think Boateng and Badstuber will be exposed tonight."
Adam Gillis writes: "My opinion of Jose Mourinho will raise a few eyebrow's but I think he's overrated, yes he's won trophies where ever he's been and is no doubt a good manager but nicknaming him 'The special one' is bizarre. He's won trophies at the best clubs, there's no way he could give norwich back to back promotions like Paul Lambert has or maybe he could but before we all worship him let's see him take charge of someone average like Everton and see how he copes. I think Munich will win this one 3-1."
Our friends at Sky Bet can't separate these two European giants tonight, with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid both priced at 13/8 for the victory. The draw could be the smart bet tonight, and that is avaliable at 12/5.
And there IS some English blood in this tie as Howard Webb takes charge as the man in black.
Bayern Munich: Neuer, Lahm, Boateng, Badstuber, Alaba, Gustavo, Schweinsteiger, Robben, Kroos, Ribery, Gomez. Subs: Butt, Olic, Rafinha, Pranjic, Muller, Contento, Tymoschuk.
Real Madrid: Casillas, Arbeloa, Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Fabio Coentrao, Alonso, Khedira, Di Maria, Ozil, Ronaldo, Benzema. Subs: Adan, Kaka, Granero, Marcelo, Albiol, Varane, Higuain.
Ricardo Carvalho (thigh) and Lassana Diarra (hamstring) have not travelled to Munich with the rest of the squad but Marcelo is on the bench and Angel Di Maria starts after recovering from respective back and thigh problems.
Real Madrid have been unstoppable in Europe this term, winning all six of their group games before comfortably knocking out CSKA Moscow and APOEL Nicosia to reach the semi-finals.
Arjen Robben was also shown the door by Real and starts against his former club, with Heynckes able to call on a virtually full-strength starting XI after resting several star men at the weekend.
Bayern manager Jupp Heynckes will be determined to prove a point after being dismissed as Real coach in 1998 despite delivering European success.
The prospect of competing in the final on their home ground has inspired Bayern throughout this season's campaign and they have just one more obstacle to negotiate if they are to feature at the Allianz Arena on May 19.
