FT: Crewe 1 Southend 0

Full-time: That's it. Crewe will take a one-goal lead to Roots Hall. The home side passed it well early on before being more direct after the break. That got them the goal but there were chances for Southend after the break and they couldn't take them. Both sides still well in the tie.

90+4
Chance! Grant finds Timlin with a beautiful chipped pass but the Southend man cannot connect with the volley. The ball lands at his feet while on the floor with Eastwood closing in... but Timlin can't get out of the way and the shot strikes him. Frustrating end for Sturrock's men.

90+3
Dugdale hoofs the ball away once more. Crewe fans calling for full-time.

90+1
Chance! The ball nearly drops for Powell inside the box but Prosser is there with a vital block.

90
Four added minutes.

90
Crewe dealing with the aerial bombardment and have won a free-kick of their own.

90 Bodin is coming on to replace Martin.

89
Crewe sitting back and inviting pressure but it looks like they should hold out. Here comes another long-throw though...

86
Chance! Hall with an excellent left-footed effort after seemingly shoving the defender. Phillips does brilliantly to get a fingertip to it and push away for a corner.

85
Another dangerous long-throw from Leonard is difficult for Phillips to deal with on the bounce. It nearly slips from his grasp near the goal-line but he holds on at the second attempt.

84 Leitch-Smith is coming off. Clayton is on in his place.

83
Eastwood nearly threads the ball through to Hall but Dugdale is there to clear.

81
Grant fouls Powell and provides Westwood with another chance to put the ball in but Mohsni heads away.

80
Westwood wins a free-kick and Crewe will take their time to get this one right.

79
Eastwood's shot is defletcted wide but Hall chases it down and has time to whip a cross to Mohsni at the far post. But the Southend man heads over from an inviting position.

78
Loose defending from Southend and they give the ball away on the edge of their own area. Tootle finds Leitch-Smith but his shot is blocked.

78 Murphy is replaced by Bell.

77
Leonard taking every chance to launch the long-throws into the box. Prosser has been adjudged offside from the flick-on.

76
Hall's cross into the box from a central position is cleared by Davis and Mohsni is forced to concede the goal-kick.

75
Southend pushing hard now but still struggling to find an opening. Crewe starting to sit deeper and go into containment mode.

73 Harris is off and he'll be replaced by Eastwood.

71
Chance for Southend. Timlin's hopeful run into the box is perfectly timed when Mohsni nods down to him but his effort is pushed away by Phillips.

70
Another diagonal ball looking for Dugdale but it is over him this time.

68
Danger for Southend. Mellor chips a ball in to Leitch-Smith on the right flank and he tricks his way to the by-line. His drilled cross is eventually cleared.

67 Prosser is on for Phillips.

66
Chance! Leitch-Smith's movement pays off as he eludes Phillips when racing onto a flick-on but Belford is up to the challenge and palms over.

65
It's Hall with the next effort but it's wide again. More urgency about the away side now.

64
Leonard with a long throw and it causes problems before the ball comes out to Grant and he blasts a shot wide. Very wide.

63
It's all Tootle. Westwood with a diagonal ball into the box just eludes the Crewe man this time.

62
There's another chance for Tootle moments later when Parker slips him in but he is pushed wide and the chance is gone.

61
Tootle with a chance, latching on to a knockdown but he fires the bouncing ball way over the bar.

61 Ferdinand is replaced by Leonard.

58
After shambolic goalkeeping, this defending was worse. Passing the ball across the back Southend only succeed in conceding a throw-in.

57
Another cross comes in and that's awful from Belford. Grasping at the ball under no pressure, he concedes a corner.

56
Crewe crowd enjoying this now as the home side push hard for a second.

54
Identical free-kick to the one from which Crewe scored but this time Phillips wins the header and concedes a corner. Dugdale wins another header from that corner but it's over the bar this time.

53 Hall goes into the book now.

52 Martin is booked for an aggressive lunge.

Mohsni collided with Powell and the resultant free-kick found Dugdale pulling away on the left corner of the six-yard box. The defender planted a strong header past Belford.

49 Goal! Dugdale for Crewe!

48
Mohsni knocks the ball in and Harris nicks in to try and nod past Phillips but the flag is up for offside.

48
Southend enjoying possession as Ferdinand and Timlin use the ball well before Hall's cross is overhit and goes out of play.

47
Decent start for the visitors as they probe down the left.

46
Southend kick-off and we're underway again.

Ben says: "Really hope Crewe go through. Think we'll nick it 2-1 with Powell on the scoresheet. Come on you Railwaymen!!"

Half-time: Goalless at the interval. Crewe started brightly and played some good stuff without threatening. Southend had the best chance though when Ferdinand missed the target from close range.

45+2
Harris with a right-footed cross-shot but Phillips collects.

45
Better from Southend when Gilbert loops the ball in and Hall nods down for Ferdinand. But with his back to goal inside the box he cannot find space and the chance is gone.

44
Soft free-kick conceded by Mohsni and Westwood has the chance to cross but it's a poor one and doesn't beat the first man.

43
Murphy with a shot from distance but it's well wide.

41
Ferdinand pulls away at the far post and has a free header from six-yards out but it flies over. Probably the best chance of the game so far.

40
Powell heads high and wide from a fast cross.

39
Harris whips in a dangerous cross for Mohsni but the tall winger cannot get a clean header on the ball.

38
Delay as Leitch-Smith is down following an ugly challenge from Gilbert.

37
Hall goes under a challenge in the box but there are few appeals.

37
That disruption appears to have unsettled the home side briefly. Southend have regrouped and are succeeding in stopping Crewe's passing game for now. Still very little support for Harris though.

35
Phillips is back on with some strapping.

34
Mohsni filling in at centre-back while Phillips is treated.

34
Still waiting to get Phillips off the field while he recovers.

32
Phillips is down again. He hurt his shoulder in conceding a corner when under pressure from Leitch-Smith a few minutes ago and it looks like he'll need to come off.

31
Martin is fouled by Harris and here's a chance for Crewe to load the box. The delivery is superb but Southend deal with it - just.

30
Belford looks long and finds the head of Mohsni but his flick-on runs through to Phillips.

29
When the ball comes in it is hung under the crossbar and Belford is fouled.

28
Hall tries to find space on the edge of the Crewe box but is dispossessed. Powell knocks the ball long for Leitch-Smith but the ball is cut out by Phillips. It's a corner though.

27
More good play from the hosts. Leitch-Smith makes a good run down the left and is found by Murphy. He lays the ball off for Tootle to cross but Belford claims it well.

27
Timlin with a left-footed shot from distance but Phillips saves.

26
Astute lay-off from Harris allows Clohessy to gallop down the right and put in a cross but it's a poor one and drifts out for a goal-kick.

25
Powell's shot from the resultant free-kick is blocked by the wall.

24
Excellent run from Moore. He gets a lucky break with a ricochet but is then dragged back by Phillips. Cynical foul.

23
Lovely skill from Powell on the left flank. Gives the full-back a trick and then whips a ball in that is just over the head of Tootle and Belford punches clear.

22
Another chance for the home side to put the ball in but they are perhaps guilty of overplaying. When Martin does cross it's too close to Belford and claimed comfortably.

21
Crewe content to pass the ball around denying the visitors the ball.

19
But Hall's cross is cleared.

19
Harris does well to chase a channel ball and then buys a foul with a quick drop of the shoulder. Chance for Southend to put the ball in the box.

18
More nice play from the home side with one-touch passing making the visitors look sluggish. Powell's left-footed effort is ambitious though and easily blocked.

16
Crewe nearly in there though. Powell and Tootle combine in the left channel but the final pass isn't quite right and Southend cut it out.

15
The teams trade possession in the centre of the pitch. No chances yet.

13
Better from Southend. Timlin spreads the play wide to find Hall, who cuts inside and fires off a shot but it's blocked.

12
Barker tries to clear long looking for an out-ball but it's gone for a goal-kick.

11
Westwood and Martin combine quickly and Crewe are again camped in the Southend half. Moore attempts a reverse pass into the path of the runners but Belford is off his line to intercept.

9
It's a woeful corner though. Drilled to the edge of the box but there was nobody there.

8
Quick one-two allows Moore to run at the Southend defence but his cross is cut out. Bright play from Crewe and moments later Powell wins another corner.

7
Long-range effort from Gilbert is dealt with comfortably by Phillips.

7
Belford skews his kick from a back-pass and the crowd are getting involved now. Southend just need to steady themselves here as the home side look in the mood.

6
More impressive passing from Crewe as they opt to go short with a corner but Powell slips and Southend nearly get the chance to break.

5
Good work from Mellor allows Tootle to get to the by-line but his cross is blocked.

4
Cagey opening as Phillips takes his time over two kicks. The Crewe keeper then makes an error. Thinking the ball is heading out for a goal-kick he shepherds the ball out only to see the assistant award a corner. Fortunately for him, the visitors waste the chance as the corner is curled over everyone.

2
Southend's first attack and a short throw allows Gilbert to cross from the left but his ball has too much pace on it for Harris to do anything other than get a flick on the header.

1
Confident start from the home side as they pass the ball around nicely but good pressing from Southend eventually forces Crewe to go back to Phillips.

1
Crewe kick-off and we're up and running.

The players are out and we're about to get underway.

Cian says: "Come on Southend! I think Mohsni, Hall and Harris and our strong defence will be too strong for Crewe! Sea-Sea-Seasiders!"

Southend won their final three matches of the regular season, nearly pipping Crawley to automatic promotion, so this should be a good one.

Crewe come into this one unbeaten in 16 games and without a defeat in front of their own fans since the start of January.

Our friends at Sky Bet make Crewe 7/5 favourites with Southend at 15/8. The draw is available at 23/10.

Crewe: Phillips, Tootle, Davis, Westwood, Dugdale, Murphy, Leitch-Smith, Moore, Martin, Mellor, Powell. Subs: Martin, Bell, Miller, Clayton, Bodin

Southend: Belford, Clohessy, Barker, Phillips, Gilbert, Timlin, Grant, Ferdinand, Hall, Mohsni, Harris. Subs: Morris, Prosser, Leonard, Benyon, Eastwood.

The teams are in and will be up shortly.
