Howe: Still a doubt for Ling

Howe: Still a doubt for Ling

Torquay boss Martin Ling is sweating over the fitness of Rene Howe.

The Gulls' top scorer limped out of last weekend's 3-2 defeat at Hereford after feeling the effects of a groin strain he picked up in training the previous day.

But the club's recently-crowned player of the year is fighting to be fit after resuming training towards the end of the week.

Should he miss out, fellow striker Ryan Jarvis is expected to deputise again as he did when he scored as a substitute against the Bulls.

Midfielder Damon Lathrope, whose future has been the subject of much recent speculation, was also withdrawn at the interval in that fixture but should be available.

Meanwhile, Cheltenham boss Mark Yates has a fully-fit squad at his disposal.

Loan defender Luke Garbutt recently returned to parent club Everton to assess a muscle strain but has re-joined his team mates in time to feature.

The full-back felt the effects of a gluteus maximum problem in last weekend's 2-1 win at Plymouth and visited the Toffees' medical staff as a precaution.

Fellow defender Danny Andrew is also available for selection after returning from a loan spell at non-league Mansfield.

Yates, who recently penned a new two-year deal, made a host of changes last weekend and could have a selection headache.

Jeff Goulding, Steven MacLean, Brian Smikle and Theo Lewis may all come into consideration.
