FT: Arsenal 6 Southampton 1

Arsenal win in some style to maintain their unbeaten start to the season. Southampton remain without a point!

90+2
Oxlade-Chamberlain almost caps a superb display with a goal but his shot deflects wide

89
Puncheon threatens a late consolation but Szczesny stops his shot with his legs

6-1! Walcott! Davis stops Vermaelen's shot, Cazorla plays in Walcott and the former Southampton man curls in a left-footed finish. No celebration

86
Clyne bundles his way to the Arsenal six-yard box but can't pick a pass

84
Ramirez has looked bright for Southampton since coming on at the break. He cuts inside and a left-footed drive whistles narrowly wide. He looks to have plenty of confidence in his ability

82
It really should have been six! Giroud will be furious after Walcott wastes numerous chances to put him through and the chance goes begging

80
It's 'ole' stuff from Arsenal at the moment. That is until the finish comes as Oxlade-Chamberlain finds row z!

78
Walcott makes an immediate impression, skipping down the right and almost picking out Giroud with his centre. Arsenal don't look like they've finished yet...

Kyle Simon: "Wow 4 goals in the first half I'm surprised. Definitely eating my words I thought Arsenal would win 3-0 but I misjudged our ability... Go on arsenal.. I think 6-1 with santi to score"

Lambert is replaced by Rodriguez for the Saints

73
Just what Southampton need... Walcott and Giroud replace Gervinho and Podolski

72
Oxlade-Chamberlain lets rip from just inside the box but Davis makes a superb save diving to his right

5-1! Gervinho! Ramsey shows quick feet to dance around Clyne, his shot bounces off the post and kindly to Gervinho, who can't miss from one yard out!

67
Szczesny is having an absolutely nightmare here. Another shocking clearance presents Southampton with another attacking opportunity but the final ball is too strong for Puncheon

Ramsey replaces Coquelin for the hosts

65
Despite the scoreline, Szczesny is having a game to forget. His routine kick out dribbles to Puncheon, who, after a spell of Saints pressure, balloons his shot over the bar

62
Full credit to Southampton for not giving up here. They are pressing high up the pitch and not allowing Arsenal to pass their way through the remainder of the game

60
Southampton have not given up on this yet. Fox fires in a dangerous cross which almost falls kindly for Puncheon. Cries of 'C'Mon on Arsenal' ring out from the home fans', who clearly don't want their side to take their foot off the gas

58
Oxlade-Chamberlain sets off on a raid down the right wing but can't quite pick out Podolski in the box. Cazorla picks up the pieces and his cross is fired at Gervinho by a Southampton defender and almost bounces in!

56
Chance! Lambert spurns a huge opportunity to get Southampton back into this. He ghosts in past Gibbs at the back post but can only drag his right-foot shot wide with the goal at his mercy

55
The match is being played at a much slower tempo in this half. Arsenal know they have the game practically won after their four-goal blitz

52
The Saints are throwing plenty of bodies forward but that is leaving them even more exposed at the back. Arteta slips in Podolski but instead of going for goal he opts to cross and the move breaks down

49
Plenty of attacking ambition being shown by Southampton here. Puncheon drives forward before Ramirez tests Szczesny with a curling effort from the edge of the box

47
Arsenal force a corner early in the second half but Mertesacker is crowded out at the front post

46
Steven Davis makes way for record signing Gaston Ramirez at half time. He joins Lambert up front as the Saints go 4-4-2

A totally dominant first half comes to an end with Arsenal in complete control at the Emirates. The two own goals have been tough on the Saints, who have a mountain to climb after the break. Arsenal have been simply superb

4-1! Fox! Southampton are back in it... It's a moment Szczesny will want to forget as he drops the ball at the feet of Fox, who fires home! Arsenal concede their first goal of the season

43
Gibbs has been a more than useful outlet for Arsenal down the left. His cross is met by Mertesacker, who stayed forward from a corner, but his powerful header sailed over the bar

41
Southampton are just praying for half time now. They are in danger of capitulating further as Arsenal mount another attack

39
Puncheon tries his luck from 25 yards out but his left-footed effort dribbles wide of the post. I'm not sure Szczesny has touched the ball yet!

4-0! Own goal! Really tough luck on Southampton as a low cross from Gibbs sails off the boot of Clyne and beats a stranded Davis. We have only been playing 37 minutes and Southampton are four down

3-0! Gervinho! real problems for Southampton now. Arteta lifts the ball through to Gervinho, who bears down on goal from the right hand side and lashes home past the hapless Davis. That's his first goal of 2012 and the Saints look dead and buried before half time

33
Lambert goes down under pressure from Jenkinson but appeals for a penalty are half-hearted and referee Kevin Friend waves them away

30
2-0 Arsenal!! Podolski! It's a first goal at the Emirates for Podolski, who curls in a glorious free-kick from 25-yards out! A strike of pure quality

28
A re-shuffle in the Saints backline as central defender Hooiveld is replaced by debutant Yoshida. Looks like it was injury-forced

27
Schneiderlin is caught in possession by Gervinho who races forward and slips in Podolski. The Germany international takes one touch too many though and Fonte makes a crucial tackle

25
Gervinho comes close again, bending a right-footed shot narrowly wide of the post with Davis beaten. Southampton are on the ropes

24
Fantastic football from Arsenal once more. Cazorla and Podolski link up superbly on the edge of the box, the German finds Gibbs who crosses, but Gervinho can only head over from the penalty spot

22
Southampton are chasing shadows in the London sunshine as Arsenal pop the ball around with style on and around the halfway line

20
Davis drops the corner, the ball is swung back in and Mertesacker, completely unmarked, heads goalwards only to be denied by the diving Saints keeper, who makes amends

19
Arsenal are playing some glorious football here. Cazorla, Podolski, Gibbs and Gervinho link up beautifully down the left and only a last-ditch tackle denies Gervinho. Corner...

17
Southampton have finally settled after a dominant spell for the Gunners. They need Lambert to hold the ball up much better though, it has been one-way traffic so far at the Emirates

14
Southampton force their first corner but Arsenal clear with ease

13
This is starting to look like it could be a long afternoon for Southampton. Arsenal charge forward again and a rasping drive from Coquelin is blocked with Davis seemingly in trouble

11
1-0 Arsenal!! The pressure eventually tells as Arsenal take the lead, albeit in fortunate circumstances. Podolski wriggles his way towards the Saints box, slips in Gibbs, his shot is saved by Davis but the rebound hits Hooiveld and trickles over the goal-line!

9
Oxlade-Chamberlain has started this match superbly and leads Fox a merry dance before whipping in a low cross which misses everyone. Not enough Arsenal players in the box for that attack

7
Southampton attempt to take the sting our of the game with a spell of possession inside their own half. The Gunners are more than happy to let them play inside their own territory

Kyle Simon: "I hope Arsenal get a 3-0 win hopefully we can get some wins under our belts knowing that the reputation of the team and wages paid to the players they need to get a cup this season. Hopefully Podolski, Chamberlin and Santi to score.

5
Chance! Oxlade-Chamberlain whips in a low cross, Cazorla meets it just inside the box but can't keep it down and it sails over the bar. Let off for the Saints

4
Oxlade-Chamberlain and Gervinho link up well down the right. Gervinho does Hooiveld for pace put his cross is just behind Poldolski, who takes a tumble under pressure

3
It's been a bright start from Southampton and a neat one-two sets Ward-Prowse rampaging into the box. His shot is blocked and Arsenal break... Podolski tries his luck from 25 yards but Davis gathers comfortably

1
Southampton get us under way and win an instant free-kick on the halfway line when Arteta trips Ward-Prowse

1458
Here come the players... Will the Gunners fire, or will the Saints spring a surprise? Stay tuned for minute-by-minute updates!

The Southampton back four might not be, but I for one am looking forward to watching Cazorla in action today. I've heard some great things about the Spaniard, who could be a major threat in this game

@thegoldprint has tweeted in saying: "Southampton have been unlucky so far but Arsenal should win 2-0. Podolski and Arteta."

Gabriel Sutton adds: "I've got a few friends who support Southampton and there's always been a nice atmosphere at the club when I've been there so I want them to stay up. It's not like it's been a disastrous start for them - they've played some decent stuff in their games but haven't been as clinical as the opposition. With Podolski and Cazorla having opened their Arsenal goal accounts, I can't see that changing in this game. I'll go 2-0 to the Gunners."

Sky Bet make Arsenal strong 1/3 favourites to take the points while Southampton can be backed at 8/1 to silence the Emirates Stadium. The draw is a tempting 4/1

Thomas Musonza says: "Arsenal have been impressive defensively and in my opinion they are dark horses this season. If they can have more belief and less fragility, they could mount a serious challenge. Diaby could be key this season if he can maintain good health."

It's been a tough start to the season for Nigel Adkins' Southampton and it doesn't get much harder than Arsenal away! The Gunners are yet to concede a goal in their opening three matches and start as strong favourites to maintain their unbeaten run today.
