The referee brings an end to the game and both teams have to settle for a point after it finishes 1-1 at the Stadium of Light.

Liverpool win a late corner and from Johnson has a free header but he directs his effort wide of the target.

Saha has a sight of goal, but his left-footed effort flies wide of the target.

There will be three minutes of added time at the end of the 90 minutes.

The home fans are unhappy as Sunderland feel they are denied a throw-in after Gerrard's challenge on McClean.

Liverpool win a free-kick on the edge of the box as Sessegnon clips Sterling.

Sunderland make their final change of the game as Louis Saha comes on for Fletcher.

Johnson cuts inside from the left again and has a shot at goal which flies over the crossbar.

Good break from Sunderland as Sessegnon feeds McClean, but his cross is overhit and flies out of play.

Larsson is booked after late challenge on Sterling.

Great save by Mignolet to deny Shelvey and from the rebound the ball bounces too high for Suarez who on the stretch can only head his effort over the top.

There was a long way for the last corner as Pepe Reina changed his boots, but in the end the corner came to nothing as Sunderland cleared the danger.

Wasteful from Sterling as he runs the ball out of the play as he tries to get to the byline as we enter the final 15 minutes at the Stadium of Light.

GOAL: Suarez draws Liverpool level as he scores at the second attempt after seeing his initial shot blocked by Bramble following fine some approach play by Sterling.

Nice run from Sterling and the ball breaks down to Johnson on the edge of the box, but his left-footed effort is well over the top.

Sterling picks up the ball and tries his luck from the edge of the box, but he pulls his shot wide of the target.

From the corner the ball drops to Gerrard who sees his shot deflected up into the air for Skrtel who sees his header saved by Mignolet.

Sterling fires over a great cross to the near post towards Borini and Mignolet can only push the ball out to Shelvey who tees up the onrushing Gerrard who sees his shot clip the outside the post. Close thing for Sunderland there.

Nice build-up from Sunderland sees McClean tee up Colback and the midfielder tries his luck from fully 30 yards only for his shot to fly well wide of the target.

The corner falls to Gardner on the edge of the box and he fires in a full-blooded shot which is blocked by Kelly.

Good play from Sessegnon as he wins a corner for Sunderland.

Good tackle from Rose on Suarez to stop another attack from Liverpool.

It appears Sunderland are content to sit deep and defend their lead and try and hit Liverpool on the break.

Borini flashes a header wide from Johnson's cross. It was only a half chance for the Italian.

Liverpool go close to equalising as Johnson cuts in from the left and curls a shot off the crossbar with Mignolet well beaten in the Sunderland goal.

Good ball in from Johnson, but there is no Liverpool player in the box to get on the end of it. Wasted opportunity.

Good start to the second half from Liverpool as they win a corner as O'Shea clears Sterling's cross.

Shelvey has the first effort of the second half, but his shot is easily saved by Mignolet.

Liverpool get the second half underway looking to get back into the game.

There is a change at the break as Titus Bramble comes on for Cuellar who is struggling with a hamstring problem.

GOAL: Sunderland take the lead with their effort of the game as Gardner beats two challenges down the right and crosses for Fletcher to slide home from close-range. Poor defending from Liverpool as the goal comes against the run of play.

Appeals for a penalty waved away as Johnson goes down in the box under pressure from Gardner, but referee Atkinson is having none of it.

Good opening for Liverpool as Cuellar underhits his back header to Mignolet and Borini latches onto it and fires in a shot which is saved by the Sunderland keeper. Best chance of the game so far.

Good defending from Johnson as he blocks Sessegnon's cross and the ball comes back off the Sunderland man for a goalkick for the visitors.

Sessegnon tries to get Gardner in down the right, but his pass is overhit and Reina collects the ball.

Sterling plays in Borini down the right side of the box, but his cross is comfortably collected by Mignolet in the Sunderland goal.

Liverpool passing it around nicely, but no cutting edge as yet.

Suarez drifts in from the left hand side and gets to the edge of the box before dragging his shot side of the goal.

10 minutes gone and part from Shelvey's early effort not a lot else has happened.

Worry for Sunderland as Fletcher is down and in need of treatment after being caught by Skrtel and he is in need of some treatment.
