FT: Wigan 2 Everton 1

Thanks for joining me this afternoon. Don't forget to stick around for all the post-match reaction.

A point each is perhaps a fair result following a pulsating match at the DW. Wigan will be disappointed not to have hung on for the win, but the Toffees virtually dominated the second period, their hard work finally paying off with two minutes left.

Great chance for Wigan!!! Maloney finds himself free in the area, his shot takes a deflection and loops agonisingly just over the bar!!

88
We are in for a frantic finish here as Everton push for a winner. The Toffees fans behind the goal are roaring them on. Don't discount Wigan though, they still look dangerous!

82
Sub for Everton: Victor Anichebe replaces Phil Neville.

78
Everton are screaming for a penalty as Jelavic goes down as shapes to shoot, but the referee says no! There is contact as Figueroa stretches to get to the ball. Everton look to be very unlucky there.

76
Phil Neville is booked for a tackle from behind on Di Santo.

74
Kone tries a shot from a tight angle but it goes wide.

73
Looks like he is ok to continue.

56
James McCarthy is shown the yellow card for tugging back Mirallas.

52
Close!! Lovely move again by Everton down the left, Baines then tees it up for Mirallas in the area, but he sidefoots the ball over just over!

50
Leon Osman does well to turn and shoot in the area, but his shot flies just over the bar.

48
Everton win a corner at the other end, but Baines' delivery is headed away, Pienaar then puts it back in the box, but Al-Habsi claims.

Real entertainment at the DW between two skillful and committed teams. Wigan certainly seem up for it today and it will be up to Everton to try and match them in the second half.

40
Kevin Mirallas drives forward and fires in a shot that takes a deflection but Al-Habsi pushes it out for a corner, which Wigan clear.

37
Wigan break forward quickly again, spreading it from right to left, in the end Jagielka is forced to head Beausejour's cross away for the corner.

34
Pienaar bends in a shot from distance but it is straight into the gloves of Al-Habsi.

32

30
Space opens up for Maloney on the edge of the area but he drags his shot wide.

23
Goal for Wigan!! Di Santo!!

19
Baines goes for the one-two with Pienaar but is blocked off by Shaun Maloney. The referee shows him the yellow card for the foul. Looked a bit harsh that.

16
Jean Beausejour curls in a free-kick from the left but it goes over everyone's head and out for a throw-in.

15
This has been a really enjoyable game so far, Wigan perhaps having the better of things, they look determined to get a result today.

13
Replays suggested that Kone may have been just offside when he headed home the opener, though Jelavic's instant response means it hardly matters now.

11
Wigan's lead lasted barely a minute, Pienaar standing up a cross to the far post for Nikica Jelavic to head home!

11
Goal for Everton!! Jelavic!!

Wigan get us underway.

Everton have brought a sizeable contingent of supporters this afternoon so it should be a good atmosphere. Kick-off seconds away now.....

Here come the two teams......

@AndyHalsey tweeted: Hope to see an Everton win today and see them top of the Premier League before the international break. COYB!!!

It is a memorable day for Wigan full-back Maynor Figueroa, he is making his 150th start for the Latics.

Everton could even go top of the league today should they win and other results go their way. Just how high could they finish this season? At the other end of the table Wigan could drop into the bottom three - do they have enough to stay up this year? Let me know your thoughts Tom.Mallows@bskyb.com or @Tom_Mallows

The referee for today's encounter is Kevin Friend.

@daniel_mole tweeted: Great side! 3 points hopefully COYB

Stewart MacLaren thinks Everton will win 3-1 with goals from Marouane Fellaini, Kevin Mirallas & Nikica Jelavic.

Four points after six games is Wigan's worst ever start to a Premier League campaign.

This is Everton's best start to a Premier League season - 13 points with a +6 goal difference. The only other season they have had 13 points after six games was 2004-05 when they qualified for the Champions League.

The last four times Wigan have scored first, Everton have come back to earn two draws and two wins.

Wigan have won just one of the last 13 Premier League meetings with Everton (W1 D5 L7).

As we rapidly approach kick-off, here are some handy opta stats about the two teams.

What do you think of those teams? You can have your say by emailing me Tom.Mallows@bskyb.com or Tweet me @Tom_Mallows. I will do my upmost to publish the best comments.

Everton name an unchanged side from the one that beat Southampton 3-1 at Goodison Park last week, meaning Tony Hibbert and Darron Gibson remain on the sidelines.

Franco Di Santo is fit again and returns to the starting line-up in place of Jordi Gomez, who is available to take his place on the bench after having his red card at Sunderland rescinded in midweek.

Everton subs: Mucha, Oviedo, Naismith, Distin, Gueye, Anichebe, Duffy

Everton: Howard, Coleman, Baines, Jagielka, Heitinga, Mirallas, Pienaar, Neville, Osman, Fellaini, Jelavic

Wigan subs: Pollitt, Jones, Watson, Gomez, McManaman, Boselli, Miyaichi.
