F/T: Aston Villa 1 Newcastle 2

FULL TIME. Aston Villa 1 Newcastle 2.

Benteke chests down Lowton's ball once more, but Taylor gets to the second ball and boots it away, with the result surely in the bag now.

A throw-in is taken far too hastily by Weimann and a goal kick is the result as Newcastle look to survive one more likely attack to obtain victory.

Lowton's delivery up to Benteke sees the ball bounce in front of the striker, before Cabaye helps out to hack away once more as Newcastle continue to hang on.

Vlaar's stinging effort cannons off a body in the melee of the Newcastle penalty box, as Villa pile everything at Newcastle in pursuit of an equaliser, as five minutes time is added on.

Newcastle's fans are finding their voice again as their side close on victory, and as N'Zogbia crosses straight into Krul, another minute wastes away for the Magpies.

Yellow card for Vlaar who collides with Ameobi in a crunching tackle.

Guzan's free-kick incredibly lands in Newcastle's six-yard box, and if Benteke sticks any part of his body in the way he scores. He doesn't though, and another chance goes begging for Villa.

Baker can't keep the ball in play down the left, but as Anita breaks away, the offside flag saves the blushes of the left-back who was well and truly left caught out of position.

Lowton finds the run of Weimann, but the striker again shows the damage of that previous injury, lacking the pace to reach the ball as it rolls out for a goal-kick.

Lowton is finding space all down the right side to deliver now, but his latest cross is slightly too far ahead for Benteke as Coloccini comes across to steer the ball away.

Baker gets a powerful head to the ball, but Gutierrez makes a magnificent block before Taylor somehow clears to safety. Brilliant chance for the hosts.

Lowton whips another ball in after sterling work from Agbonlahor, and again Santon gets in the way to concede a corner.

Gutierrez incredibly attempts an overhead kick from 30 yards, which naturally lands in the arms of Guzan. Newcastle look much stronger now and they seem to have calmed the Villa storm of the second half.

Sissoko ends up superb debut as he is replaced by Yanga-Mbiwa.

Cisse is inches away from picking out Anita with a remarkable pass, but Lowton collects the ball, looking for Weimann, who is beaten for pace by Coloccini.

Benteke wins the header against Sissoko but the whistle blows as the referee deems he won the ball unfairly.

Lowton is penalised, and then booked, for a hard tackle on Santon that sees the Newcastle full-back take a crunching boot to his ankle.

Anita takes aim, but a deflection off Vlaar takes the sting out of his shot and makes for a comfortable save for Guzan.

Gouffran heads off with Anita replacing him in a Newcastle change.

Weimann remarkably keeps Bannan's ball in play, and as Villa look to pounce, Lowton's excellent delivery finds Benteke, who blazes wide from close range, with the linesman's flag saving his embarrassment.

Westwood takes a clearance right in the goolies from Cisse, but the Villa man is back on his feet, while naturally appearing in quite some pain.

Lovely move from Villa, as Lowton is played on the overlap by Weimann, whose cross clips Santon and travels for a corner.

N'Zogbia's free-kick is poor, with Westwood the man Taylor's clearance comes to but he can only aim a hapless volley over the bar.

Shola Ameobi makes his way on to the pitch to defend the corner as Perch comes off.

Weimann is fouled by Gutierrez, as they renew their battle, and Villa have a free-kick 20 yards out in a very dangerous position.

N'Zogbia looks to flick the ball on to Lowton, with Coloccini marshalling as Villa progress to win a throw-in deep in Newcastle's half.

N'Zogbia and Lowton drift balls in but both are dealt with well by Newcastle, before Baker's third effort in is cleared by Debuchy, with the Villa full-back lunging in and earns himself a booking.

Lowton looks for Benteke with a pacey ball from the right, but as Krul gathers, Weimann goes down with a knock after a tackle with Perch.

Agbonlahor catches Debuchy as the full-back heads forward, and while the Villa fans boo, it was a clear free-kick to Newcastle.

N'Zogbia is judged to use too much force in his bid to dispossess Perch, and Villa have to be careful not to press the issue too aggressively here.

Benteke leaves his foot into Taylor, and that earns the Villa striker a yellow card.

Sissoko's delivery finds Clark, and Villa charge forward with N'Zogbia. Benteke is picked out, and his wonderful pass finds Weimann who draws another excellent save from Krul!

Bannan catches Cabaye, and Sissoko clears the ball out of play with the home fans irate as the Newcastle man began to rise to his feet.

N'Zogbia moves forward with purpose, and looks for a magical moment with a fierce strike from range that ends up finding the side netting. Incredibly, it's all Villa right now.

Agbonlahor is causing Debuchy all kinds of problems now, but as he delivers into the six-yard box, Coloccini clears into Bannan, who speculative volleys into the fans behind goal.

Sissoko makes progress down the right side, but upon his pull back to Cisse, the striker fires wildly and the ball lands near the corner flag in the end.

A Villa corner sees the ball hit Baker's hand as the momentum completely shifts in the favour of the home side who have Newcastle rattled.

Benteke latches on to Lowton's wonderful ball forward, and as Krul storms out to meet it, a deflection off the keeper sees Benteke forced away from goal.

Fortunately for Villa, Guzan collects Cabaye's delivery with authority, displaying excellent handling in the process.

Gutierrez wins the free-kick this time as Lowton is lured into making an illegal tackle, with Newcastle given the chance to deliver in a dangerous position.

Gutierrez's dissent sees him pick up a yellow card.

Villa look revamped now, with the home players competing in every part of the game with much more endeavour. Gutierrez seems to have lost his composure meanwhile after a tangle with Weimann and both men are reprimanded by the referee.

Baker looks to Agbonlahor, but the striker fails to meet the ball, instead colliding with Gutierrez who takes a tumble and looks to be holding his calf afterwards.

Benteke is incredibly cool as he rolls the ball into the net, with Krul diving the wrong way, and Villa are right back into this now!

Penalty fo Villa! Debuchy clatters into Agbonlahor and the hosts have a chance to claw a goal back.

Krul denies Benteke splendidly as the striker is picked out by N'Zogbia, the striker's shot firmly parried away by the Newcastle keeper.

Villa get the game restarted, and instantly Weimann finds the target on the turn as his stinging effort is parried by Krul. Just the start that Villa needed.

Villa make two changes at the break with Agbonlahor and Weimann on for Bennett and Bent.

Shane Jones writes: "Very pleased so far, bad memories of 'the relegation' at this ground so a comfortable win tonight would be champion. So glad to have cabaye back, he makes such a difference in midfield, sissoko is looking good and cisse is scoring again happy days. Could newcastle's season be starting here, I hope so!"

HALF TIME. Aston Villa 0 Newcastle 2.

Krul safely handles a Bennett delivery from range and sets his team away. Gouffran goes for goal with a devilish striker but sees his shot hit the side netting.

N'Zogbia sticks his leg out to bring down Debuchy, and the free-kicks are being conceded far too often by Villa now.

Sissoko picks up a knock in a collision with Vlaar and looks winded as a result. Newcastle will be hoping he's fine to continue with the new boy very much impressing in his first game for the club.

N'Zogbia shows his frustration as he lunges in on Debuchy and that earns the former Magpie a yellow card.

Benteke takes down Lowton's ball well enough, but he goes for goal with a wild effort that sails well over the ball. The long ball strategy really seems to be Villa's only form of offence if they want to get back into this match.

A lack of options sees Bannan's pass end up with Perch, but Coloccini has to be alert to prevent Lowton's ball finding Benteke afterwards.

N'Zogbia is knocked off by Santon, and a Villa attack is brought to a halt as the ball rolls out for a throw-in.

Bent is caught offside from Westwood's short pass, and Villa's strikers really need to impose themselves more if the hosts are to have any chance of salvaging this game.

Bannan and Westwood just can't get into the game right now, and Benteke is isolated once more as he loses out on the right to Debuchy.

Guzan tentatively meets Cabaye's delivery, but eventually gathering the ball from his second effort back into the box. Really nervy times for Villa right now.

The wall does its job for Villa, but Gouffran's excellent ball needs Clark to clear away as Debuchy's drive results in another corner.

Newcastle win a free-kick in a dangerous position as Lowton charges in on Cabaye needlessly 25 yards out from goal.

Newcastle have been exceptional so far, with their new signings playing key roles in their dominant strides when they can go forward. What can Paul Lambert possibly say to his players at the break to solve this mess though?

What a stunner from Cabaye! Villa can't clear their lines, and as Cabaye collects the ball from 25 yards, he unleashes a stunning half-volley that flies into the top corner. 2-0 and possibly game over now at Villa Park.

Bennett drifts a teasing ball into the near post, but Coloccini has a yard on Benteke and steps in to take control.

N'Zogbia misses an opportunity to cross as he tries to turn away from Debuchy, with the right-back reading the move and getting the tackle in as Benteke waiting in the penalty area.

Vlaar is again on hand to clear away Sissoko's superb ball from the right, with Newcastle looking dangerous every time they threaten Villa's goal at the moment.

N'Zogbia looks to play in Bent behind Taylor, but he overcooks the pass somewhat and the Villa striker is left chasing shadows in the end.

Bennett takes a thumping tackle from Taylor, with the Villa left-back looking a little bruised as he gets back to his feet. Upon retrieving the ball moments later, his ball to Benteke is cut out by Debuchy.

Guzan is hounded down by a pessistent Goufrran and is forced to clear into the stands as Sissoko continues to dictate play in the final third for Newcastle.

Krul's free-kick is nudged on by Sissoko but Clark marshalls the run of Cisse and is able to head back into the arms of Guzan.

Benteke nudges into Debuchy and concedes a foul, with the home fans no doubt still perplexed after seeing N'Zogbia's marvellous effort fail to find the net.

The Villa fans show a lovely tribute to Stan Petrov on the 19 minute mark, and moments later N'Zogbia rattles the post with a sensational strike, with Bennett unable to follow through on the rebound.

Sissoko endears himself instantly to the Newcastle faithful by playing a sublime ball into Cisse's path, with the striker finishing calmly past Guzan to give Newcastle the lead!

Sissoko ends up clearing the ball away from goal, but Gouffran launches it back into the danger zone and a flick on sees Guzan gratefully gather.

Clark can only concede a corner against Cisse, and the Villa alarm bells may well be ringing here.

Westwood aims for Benteke after more good work from N'Zogbia, but Taylor reads the executed pass and heads back calmly to Krul.

Santon unleashes a scorching drive from 25 yards, with the game end to end now as Guzan is forced into making an impressive save.

First big chance for Villa as N'Zogbia finds Benteke on the overlap, with his cut back met by Coloccini's sliding challenge before Taylor comes across to clear.

Benteke looks to get involved, but as he plays the ball back to Bannan, Perch makes a crunching tackle that sees the ball roll out of play.

N'Zogbia hurries back to tackle Gutierrez and Villa look to move forward. Bannan is tackled by Perch though and they remain inside their own half.

Bannan flicks on Santon's ball in from the left, but as Villa struggle to advance out of their half, Bent's knock-on is directed straight to Taylor.

Sissoko chips the ball over the top for Cisse, but the offside flag is raised and in the end the striker slips trying to make contact. Newcastle have started extremely brightly so far at Villa Park.

Cabaye's poor delivery is easy for Westwood to knock away, but as Villa look to break, N'Zogbia is pulled back for a foul on Santon.

Danger signs for Villa as Vlaar hacks Sissoko's ball into Cisse, before Clark's sliding tackle takes the ball behind for a corner.

Villa look quite stretched already in midfield, but Sissoko can't knock the ball on to Cisse as Vlaar makes another clearance.

Sissoko collects the ball 30 yards from goal and looks to introduce himself to Magpies fans in the perfect manner, but his ambitious drive swerves well wide of goal.

N'Zogbia falls to the deck under a challenge from Taylor, and play comes to a halt as the French winger receives treatment.

Vlaar's clearance lands at the feet of Perch, but N'Zogbia tracks back admirably to make the interception. Moments later, the winger plays in Bent, with the ball skidding across his foot as Krul collects.

Gouffran takes on Lowton, but then as Santon claims possession, Bannan's hussling from midfield forces him back towards Krul.

Early half-chance for Cisse, but upon turning in the penalty area, Vlaar makes a crucial interception as Newcastle begin the game with a menacing pace.

Newcastle get the game underway.

Dale writes: "I think Villa are in big trouble if we can't beat Newcastle tonight, too many young players brought up so quickly! If it stays like this, it's Championship football next season. Why won't Lerner spend?!"
