Another chance for Ramirez, but it's another chance not taken as Shaw's header is knocked into the forward's path, who directs his header wide from just inside the penalty area.
The offside flag denies Southampton this time, with Rodriguez a yard ahead of Mariappa in his attempt to meet Lambert's delivery.
Davis snuffs out McAnuff's threaded ball into Le Fondre, with Saints working the ball forward to Rodriguez, whose shot cannons straight off Mariappa.
With Mariappa back on the field, play resumes as Rodriguez knocks the ball back to Federici, whose boot upfield sees Hooiveld beat Le Fondre in the air.
Mariappa takes a crunching in a collision with Hooiveld, with the defender's boot catching the Reading defender in the face as he noew receives treatment.
Good covering from Mariappa prevents Clyne latching on to Davis' through ball, with Ramirez dragging a shot wide moments later as both sides continue to create chances.
Saints look to maintain control of the ball after that blitz from the hosts, with Shaw whipping in from the left, finding Lambert, who can only poke the ball wide.
This is much better from Reading, with Mariappa's header drawing a wonderful diving save from Boruc as the chances continue to pile up for the hosts.
