Posh headed into the game boasting the longest active streak without defeat in the second tier having not failed to pick up at least a point since tackling Bolton on February 26.

Yet Premier League-chasing Brighton, who sat fifth in the table prior to the encounter, were always likely to provide a stiff test.

Those factors combined to create an edgy clash that, following a first half of chances at both ends, failed to ignite after the interval.

However, even in the midst of a nervy meeting, Tommy Rowe managed to produce one of the misses of the season when failing to convert an open goal in the 77th minute.

That, unsurprisingly, proved the best opportunity as both sides settled for a point, Posh ending the evening 20th and the Seagulls fourth.

Clearly brimming with confidence on the back of their recent run, Peterborough enjoyed a bright start and fashioned the first opening as Danny Swanson forced a fine save from Tomasz Kuszczak.

Brighton, however, were themselves unbeaten in their previous five league games and found a fine response, Matthew Upson rattling the crossbar with a header from David Lopez's corner.

The game was providing end-to-end action and it was Peterborough who finished the opening half very much in the ascendancy, Rowe and Grant McCann narrowly missing the target with free-kicks in quick succession.

Proceedings were surprisingly more subdued immediately after half-time, though Wayne Bridge threatened to break the deadlock when seeing an effort deflected wide.

Peterborough were not helped by some poor officiating with vociferous appeals turned down after Lee Tomlin was brought down just outside the area when through on goal.

While those complaints were justified, Rowe had nobody but himself to blame moments later; the forward somehow failed to hit the target having been picked out at the far post by Tomlin.
