Pearce: Set for Leeds debut

Leeds boss Neil Warnock could hand debuts to a number of summer signings.

Former Portsmouth trio Jason Pearce, David Norris and Luke Varney are hoping to make their competitive bows, as are Paddy Kenny, Lee Peltier and Adam Drury.

Midfielders Rudolph Austin and Paul Green are also pushing for starts having arrived at Elland Road during a busy summer.

Luciano Becchio has hardly featured during pre-season but the striker will be in contention this time.

Australian Patrick Kisnorbo is likely to miss out as he continues his recovery from an Achilles injury while striker Davide Somma will almost certainly be unavailable because of a knee problem.

Shrewsbury duo Reuben Hazell and Darren Jones are major doubts.

The defenders are struggling with calf problems which have hampered their pre-season involvement.

Hazell has sat out the past three friendly fixtures while Jones has also missed the last week of training.

Manager Graham Turner may have to consider a defensive reshuffle but is hoping at least one of them can win their fitness battle in time for the weekend.

"I'm not sure if Hazell has had enough training and game time and Darren has not trained all this week yet but we will have a look at them both over the next few days," Turner told the Shropshire Star.
