FT: Newcastle 0 Manchester United 3

Thanks for tuning in this afternoon. Stay with Sky Sports for the full report.

That's it! Manchester United win 3-0 at Newcastle after a commanding display.

90+4
We're in the final added minute and the Red Devils are closing on this convincing win. A late Cabaye corner goes straight behind.

90+3
Ameobi chips a cross in from the right, getting past Evra, but it overshoots his target of Ba in the box.

90+2
Newcastle's chances are running out. De Gea lifts a long kick upfield and it goes out for a Toon throw.

90
Scholes commits a mistimed tackle on Ameobi and gets a late booking. Four extra minutes are added this half.

89
Ba tries an optimistic shot, going it alone from distance, but it doesn't trouble De Gea.

88
The minutes are trickling down this half and chances of a Toon comeback are looking increasingly slim. Evans makes a charge through the middle but it held up by the Magpies defence.

87
Giggs comes on for a cameo performance, with Van Persie making way.

86
Bigirimana joins Webb's list of bookings, making it seven this match.

85
Ben Arfa loses possession to Rafael in the middle of the park but Perch wins it back seconds later. Giggs could come on for these last few minutes.

84
The replay shows Van Persie appears to make contact with his elbow but the striker gets off without punishment.

83
There's a coming together between Van Persie and Cabaye, leaving the latter in a heap on the floor.

82
Evra intercepts an Ameobi ball as the Red Devils' defence continue to hold off the hosts.

81
The Toon also make a change as Tiote comes off for Gael Bigirimana.

80
Wayne Rooney makes way for experienced midfielder Paul Scholes.

79
Santon wins a corner for the Toon on the right. It falls out to Anita who fires it back into the box and Perch charges in with a raised foot on De Gea, who goes down momentarily.

78
Williamson produces some well-judged defending to subdue Valencia as he advances on goal, feeding back to Harper.

77
Gutierrez tries to slip through Ba but Ferdinand shows some more good defending after he loses Rafael.

76
Ba and Ameobi pair up in midfield, trying to push forward. Santon wins a throw down the right of the visitors' half.

75
Evra tries to slot the ball through into the box but he has to make do with a Red Devils' throw, which he steps up to take.

74
Perch earns a booking for a tackle from behind on Van Persie.

73
Has that dashed any hopes of a Newcastle comeback? There's 18 minutes of regular time to go and the visitors are firmly in the driving seat.

It's a neat curling shot from the edge of the box, even if he meant it as a cross for Van Persie. There might be surprise in the celebration but it's a great finish from the youngster.

71
GOAL! CLEVERLEY FOR UNITED! 3-0!

70
Rafael tries an optimistic shot from range but his looping effort goes over the crossbar.

69
The Magpies are forcing the Red Devils back as Ba tries to pick up the ball on the edge of the box but their defence holds firm again.

68
Gutierrez battles with Valencia and comes off better. Ferdinand concedes a throw as the Toon try to get forward again.

66
Ben Arfa darts inside Rafael after pouncing on a Gutierrez ball. Cabaye gets a cross in from the other side and Ameobi tries to glance it goalwards but has to settle with a corner.

65
Rooney tries to slip the ball in neatly for Van Persie in the box but the flag goes up on the Dutchman.

64
Ferguson makes way for Anita, while Cisse comes off for Ameobi as Newcastle make a double change.

63
Ben Arfa comes close with a shot from range after being slipped through by Cabaye but he drags it wide.

62
Ben Arfa wins a Newcastle throw off Kagawa down the left. The Magpies trade passes, looking for a way through.

60
The Red Devils take a quick free-kick from far out but a long Rafael ball doesn't come to anything.

59
Cabaye puts the ball out to close down Valencia on a run down the right and it's a throw for the Red Devils.

57
Welbeck shows great strength and pace to set up Cleverley in the box but the midfielder skies his effort and is suitably aggrieved by his effort.

56
Valencia comes on in the visitors' first change, with Kagawa making way as Ferguson looks to add some width to his side.

55
Cabaye sets up Ba in the box but he can't keep his header down under pressure from Ferdinand.

53
Ferguson gets forward down the left but his cross isn't his best effort and it's dealt with by the Red Devils' backline.

52
Replays show De Gea might have done enough to keep out that Cisse effort after an initial mistake, just curling it out with his hand.

51
Newcastle think they've scored when a Cisse effort appears to cross the line. Something tells me the goal-line technology debate could be raised after this one.

50
Ba plants a cross in the box but it's dealt with by the Red Devils defence. A Ben Arfa effort is knocked clear by Ferdinand seconds later.

49
Tiote slides in to rob Rooney of possession and is fouled by Carrick for a Newcastle free-kick inside their own half, which they take quickly.

48
The visitors' backline exchange passes, in no hurry to relinquish possession. Rooney feeds Cleverley as the visitors get forward.

47
Gutierrez gets the ball away in midfield and passes back to Perch. Rafael closes down Ferguson on the left as he tries to break through.

46
We're back underway at St James' Park as the visitors get things started this half. The ball rolls back to De Gea and he picks out Van Persie with a long ball.

Thanks for your comments. It's nearly time for the second half, enjoy it!

Bobby Howe had this to say - "Can't see Newcastle scoring as it stands. A few more clinical passes and finishing touches on the break and the Reds have this in the bag. 4 - 0 to Man U. VP to score next."

Mr Potato Head says - "Newcastle playing ok but Man utd will demolish any team playing like they are. I want newcastle to win though."

Gabriel Sutton has written in - "It could be important for United that they don't concede early in the second half. They got off to a brilliant start in this one and are certainly controlling the game at present but I can't help but think if Newcastle score in the next 15 minutes, which Cisse/Ba are capable of doing at any moment, the complexity of the game could change- United's defence is not the quickest and will need to stay focused. If they can do that, I'll say 3-0 to Man U."

The whistle blows for half-time and it's Newcastle 0 Manchester United 2 after goals from defenders Evans and Evra.

45+3
Rooney tries to successive stabs at goal from the left but is denied by the Toon defence and the side-netting and that might end this half.

45+3
There's another corner for the Red Devils after Welbeck's ball comes off Cabaye and goes behind. Rooney floats it in but Harper punches it away.

45+2
The stats show Newcastle have had seven attempts now to equal the visitors' after growing into this game.

45+1
Three extra minutes have been added this half. Newcastle win a free-kick from long range and Cisse gets to it but his header is off-target. He's not happy after Evra appears to tug him.

45
Perch wins the ball in midfield and Ben Arfa skips towards goal but his long-range shot is not one of his better ones and it doesn't trouble De Gea.

44
The corner is touched on by Carrick and nearly falls to Rooney but just overshoots him and Newcastle can breathe again.

43
Van Persie tries to set up Cleverley on the edge of the box but Newcastle intervene. The Red Devils win a corner seconds later, which the Toon won't be happy with.

42
Gutierrez flies in with a rash tackle on Kagawa and is handed a caution by Webb.

41
Newcastle keep pressing as Ba beats Ferdinand to the ball in the box but can't control his shot as it flies into the stands.

40
Cisse goes down on the right of the box under pressure from Evra but referee Webb is unmoved and the ball stays with the visitors.

39
United win a free-kick as Ben Arfa is spotted holding back. Carrick tries to find Rooney in midfield but his pass goes wayward.

39
Cabaye's corner is flicked out by Ferdinand but only as far as Gutierrez, whose deflected shot goes behind for another.

38
The corner is a short effort straight to Ben Arfa but he loses possession. Back on the ball, Cisse wins another corner for Newcastle, this time on the right.

37
Ferguson wins a corner on the left after Rafael is forced to put his cross behind. It's Cabaye who steps up to take it.

36
Rafael and Kagawa link up well down the right to carry things forward for United. Welbeck latches onto Rooney's pass down the middle but can't get a shot away under pressure from the Toon defence and without support.

34
Gutierrez plants the ball in the box for Ba and he flicks a backheel on to Cabaye, but the Toon man can't get his shot on target.

33
Tiote is the latest player to get a yellow card after colliding with Rooney. His reaction is a 'passionate' one, remarks Super Sunday commentator Gary Neville.

32
Cabaye's long free-kick is a good one but no-one can latch onto it. Newcastle are gradually finding their way into this game.

31
Van Persie gets a booking for a foul on Santon as the momentum begins to swing Newcastle's way.

30
Ferdinand goes in Howard Webb's book after charging in on Cisse.

29
Cabaye whips in the free-kick from the left but Ferdinand rises to keep it out and the visitors get the ball away.

28
Ferguson slips through Ben Arfa but Rooney is there on the edge of the box to clear. Van Persie clashes with Gutierrez but gets away with a talking to from the ref.

27
Play resumes as Evans gets to his feet. Ben Arfa fires a long ball into the box, looking for Ba, but the Red Devils defence hold firm.

26
Evans is on the floor and appears to have discomfort in his knee after defending that corner and there's a lull in play.

25
Cleverley closes down Cabaye and Newcastle win a corner, which the Frenchman takes. It falls to the feet of Ba but the striker can't keep his shot down.

24
A rogue long ball goes straight back to De Gea and he feeds Evans, but the United man gives the ball away in a similar fashion.

23
Welbeck tries to link up with Evra again down the left but Santon gets the ball away to win a Newcastle throw.

22
Newcastle's resulting free-kick is far out on the left and Cabaye steps up to take it. It's kept out of the box but falls to Gutierrez.

21
Ben Arfa tries to get away from Kagawa in midfield and the United man clips him, earning a booking and conceding a free-kick.

20
Rooney does well to control an awkward ball from Cleverley in the United half and eases it on to Van Persie.

19
Evra wins a long Harper kick ahead of Cisse but Newcastle earn the ball back in midfield until Cleverley intervenes.

18
Cisse plants a ball in the box for Ba but he can't quite latch onto it. Seconds later a Ben Arfa ball falls back to Gutierrez and he puts a shot just wide. Better from the Magpies.

17
Super Sunday stats tell the story of the game so far - United have had seven attempts to Newcastle's none so far.

The resulting corner sees Evra charge into the box and beat Ba to the ball, heading it home. Newcastle have now conceded two early goals from set-pieces and will have to tighten things up.

16
GOAL! EVRA FOR UNITED!

15
Rooney steps up to take the free-kick and his effort is on target but it's not got enough height to evade Harper and the keeper denies him.

14
Cleverley goes to ground after a foul by Ba as Newcastle's frustration builds and United get a free-kick inside the Toon half from far out.

13
United look threatening again as Newcastle are slow to react to a corner. Rooney picks out Van Persie down the right and the Dutchman manages to keep the long ball in.

12
Harper gets away with what could have been a highly costly error after failing to clear his lines. Welbeck wins the ball on the edge of the box but doesn't have the composure to put away his shot in the open goal.

11
Rafael breaks down the right and decides to go alone with a shot but fizzes his effort across the face of goal.

10
Ben Arfa makes a weaving run towards the United goal and wins a throw for the hosts. He then pairs up with Santon to further the attack and prompts an important clearance from Rooney.

9
Williamson gets the ball away from Welbeck to diffuse another United threat, with the visitors in control at the minute.

After Van Persie wins the corner he floats it into the box from the right and Evans rises above everyone to nod it home.

8
GOAL! EVANS FOR UNITED!

7
Van Persie makes a good run to meet another Carrick ball into the box but Harper keeps him out with his boot.

6
The Magpies are yet to really get a footing in the game as United try to build from the back. Carrick flicks a long ball forward but Harper coolly deals with it.

5
United get forward again and Welbeck gets a chance in the box but his final finish is lacking and the ball rolls straight to Harper.

4
Kagawa wins Manchester United their first corner, which Van Persie takes but Newcastle hold off the threat.

3
Evra and Van Persie link up down the left and the latter tries to find Kagawa with a diagonal ball but Harper comes out to collect.

2
Tiote lifts a long ball into the United half, looking for Cisse, but can't pick out his man. Rooney is fouled by Tiote in midfield and the visitors earn a free-kick.

We're underway in this Super Sunday clash on a sunny day in the North East. Newcastle kick off as Ba and Cisse get things started.

15.56
The teams are out to a buzzing reception on Tyneside. Enjoy the first half!

15.53
We'll be getting underway at St James' Park shortly. Thanks for all your feedback, keep it coming at half-time.

@JoshSBoots tweeted - "today is going to be a good game !! Man United vs Newcastle - it's going to be close!!"

Sky Sports' Super Sunday pundit Ray Wilkins has said of Newcastle duo Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse - "They're selfish in the fact that they want to score goals, both of them. But I think these two guys in their own right are very good players indeed. I don't see them playing as a natural couple."

Kieron Hatton wrote in - "neither of these teams have a strong back four can't wait to see ben arfa run ring around the most overrated left back in the world."

15.43
Salaar Shamsi says - "Hi Rachel. Just can't understand why Sir Alex keeps persisting with Evra despite a string of poor performances, this would be a good time to give Buttner some playing time to help him settle and gain some confidence. This will be close, Newcastle's midfield looks stronger. 2-1 to United, Manchester United, that is :)"

15.41
United boss Ferguson turns to Michael Carrick, Shinji Kagawa and Danny Welbeck as Darren Fletcher, Anderson and Javier Hernandez make way from the team which started against Cluj in midweek.

15.40
Leading scorer Demba Ba is back in Alan Pardew's starting line-up in one of five changes to the side which beat Bordeaux 3-0 in the Europa League on Thursday evening. Ba, Steve Harper, Davide Santon, Hatem Ben Arfa and Jonas Gutierrez return at the expense of Shola Ameobi, Rob Elliot, Danny Simpson, Gabriel Obertan and Vurnon Anita.

Andrew Lewis says - "I think United are the safe bet today. Walked over Newcastle with the kids last week, need a good win in the league to keep up with Chelsea, fergie will have the lads pumped for a win at St James' Park today. 2-0 united rach."

Ben Gleeson had this to say - "Hi Rachel. Mixed feelings about today, I'm pleased that Fergie has realised De Gea is the much better keeper, and that Nani simply isn't worth bothering with anymore, but the deployment of what looks like Rooney in midfield worries me, and Ben Arfa will be licking his lips when he sees the rapidly declining Evra at left back again."

15.35
There's plenty of feedback coming in. Here's a taste of what you've had to say...

15.34
Newcastle, meanwhile, drew with Reading last time out in the league and will be buoyed by their European triumph over Bordeaux in midweek.
