I hope that you enjoyed our live coverage of the match here on Skysports.com. Feel free to send me your feedback by emailing me at Subhankar.Mondal@bskyb.com or tweet me @subhankarjourno. It's goodbye from me for now. Have a good evening.

It is all over at Estadio dos Barreiros in Madeira as Newcastle have drawn 0-0 with Maritimo in their opening game of the Europa League. Both sides had chances, with Newcastle hitting the frame of the hosts' goal three times, and Maritimo having an attempt cleared off the goalline.

A cross is whipped in from the right that Fidelis heads towards the Newcastle goal, but he fails to find the target.

Abreu forces Elliot into making a save with a close range shot, as Newcastle concede a corner, which eventually yields nothing productive.

We are now heading into stoppage time. Five minutes of injury time have been awarded.

Two minutes of normal time left, as Gosling is down injured at the moment.

Santon receives the fourth yellow card of the match.

Five minutes of normal time remain in this Europa League Group D clash. Will we see a goal?

It is getting tensed now and I wouldn't be surprised if we see a late, late winner here.

Santon, who saved his team at one end, sets off on a run at the other but he loses possession of the ball inside the Maritimo penalty box.

Substitution for Maritimo. Danilo comes off and on comes Adilson.

WHAT A CHANCE! Davide Santon clears a Valentin Roberge header from a corner off the Newcastle goalline! That was close.

Substitution for the visitors. Obertan is replaced by Marveaux.

The game has gone a bit flat once again in the last couple of minutes, as Newcastle seem ready to make another substitution.

There has been another goal in France in the other Group D game going on this evening. Bordeaux are now 4-0 up against Club Brugge.

Substitution for Newcastle. Ferguson comes on in place of Amalfitano.

Substitution for Maritimo. Simao comes off and on comes Goncalo Abreu.

Maritimo launch a quick counter-attack, with Simao and Sami once again leading the line. Sami does well to take the ball to the bye-line, but thereafter he is dispossessed and the danger is averted.

Simao and Sami combine again, this time on the left edge of the Newcastle penalty area. However, the latter's shot is off target.

Which they fail to capitalise upon. Goalless it remains.

Sami shoots at the Newcastle goal from the right edge of the penalty area and forces a save from Elliot. A corner for Maritimo now.

Maritimo are set to make another substation now, their second of the evening.

Yellow card to Amalfitano for a blatant challenge on Joao Luiz.

Sammy Ameobi runs along the left flank and is probably looking to craft in a cross, but he is easily dispossessed.

Both sides are getting at each other and are looking more and more urgent to break the deadlock. Despite Newcastle hitting the woodwork on three occasions, it is still goalless at the moment.

Shola Ameobi again with a chance for Newcastle, but Salin is not conned by his turn and claims his shot with a dive.

Joao Guilherme now takes an attempt from outside the Newcastle box, but his shot does not trouble Elliot in any way.

The corner is whipped in and Shola Ameobi heads it towards the goal, but it sails over the crossbar.

Sammy Ameobi has looked very lively and enthusiastic since coming on, and earns a corner for Newcastle as his shot takes a deflection and goes out of play.

Half an hour remain in this Europa League Group D fixture, as it is goalless between Maritimo and Newcastle United.

Brilliant movement from Maritimo again. Sami is released down the left flank and he picks out Fidelis, but the latter's shot on the turn fails to get past Elliot.

The pitch is not the best you can get in a European club competition, but the players are doing the best they can.

Amalfitano takes a shot at the Maritimo goal from inside the penalty area but he fails to keep his shot on target. Good build-up play there from the Ameobi brothers.

The game has gone slightly flat in the last few minutes, as both sides are patiently sizing up each other.

A little piece of history for you. The Ameobi brothers have become the first brothers to represent Newcastle United in a European competition in the same match.

Substitution for Maritimo. Fidelis comes on for Heldon.

Newcastle are making a substitution now. Vuckic comes off and on comes Sammy Ameobi, the younger brother of Shola Ameobi.

OBERTAN! He runs down the right flank and whips in a low cross across the face of the Maritimo goal, but he fails to pick any team-mate.

Five minutes gone in the second half, and it promises to be a very lively second period indeed.

Simao takes a shot at the Newcastle goal but it lacks venom and placement, and Salin claims it with ease.

Newcastle look lively and imaginative in the early minutes of the second half.

AMEOBI!!! The Newcastle striker hits the crossbar with a curling shot from inside the Maritimo penalty area. What a chance that was for the English club!

There has been a goal in the other game in Group D. Bordeaux are now leading Club Brugge 3-0 at home.

Newcastle United get the second-half action underway now...

The two sets of players are now on the pitch, as the second-half action will get underway in a matter of seconds.

So what have you made of the first half? Send me your opinion and predictions for the second 45 minutes, and I will post the best ones here. You can email me at Subhankar.Mondal@bskyb.com or tweet me @subhankarjourno.

It is half-time at the Estadio dos Barreiros and it is goalless between Maritimo and Newcastle United. The hosts started the game the brighter of the two sides, but Alan Pardew's side clawed their way back into it, hitting the post twice.

Simao is shown the yellow card for dissent.

Newcastle survive a scare in the second minute of injury time. Sami's pace catches Taylor out and he goes down with two other defenders around him inside the six-yard box. Then Elliot claims the ball that comes off a visiting defender and the home side think it was a backpass.

We are now heading into stoppage time, of which there will be two minutes.

Yellow card to Bigirimana following a drop-ball situation. Maritimo decide not to follow the usual etiquette from the drop-ball situation and try to run with the ball, and then Bigirimana's attempt to stop it earns him a yellow card.

In the other Group D game, it is Bordeaux 2-0 Club Brugge at the moment.

Another attractive build-up play from the home side, with Simao shooting at the Newcastle goal. But his effort is blocked and the danger is easily averted.

Five minutes left on the clock for the half-time interval.

The Premier League side would be looking to head into the half-time interval with a 0-0 scoreline. Newcastle have regained their confidence but a goal at this stage for Maritimo could just deflate it.

Elliot makes another good save as Maritimo continue to ask questions of the Newcastle defence.

Ameobi tries to get the better of two defenders and eventually manages to strike the ball, but his attempt from inside the Maritimo penalty area is feeble and causes Salin no problem whatsoever.

Ten minutes remain in the first half of what has been an interesting match between Maritimo and Newcastle United.

Newcastle are on the attack now as a cross is floated in from the right, but Salin claims it with ease.

Maritimo are retaining possession of the football and patiently playing it around. They do look very, very comfortable on the ball.

Joao Luiz goes for an ambitious long-range effort but his shot sails over the Newcastle goal.

Ameobi once again tests Salin from inside the Maritimo penalty area, but he is thwarted by the goalkeeper.

Newcastle appear to have gained their footing now in the last three or four minutes. The run of play has now been changed.

Now Obertan tries his luck from a narrow angle on the right but fails to his keep his attempt on target.

Gosling! He shoots at the Maritimo goal from just outside the penalty area, but he is denied by the post. Two chances in a minute there for Newcastle.

WHAT A CHANCE! A cross is whipped in from the left that Williamson shoots at goal. His shot is blocked but it falls generously to Ameobi and he heads it from just yards out. However, Salin dives in and deflects it off the post and out of danger.

The corner is floated in and Salin is formed to make a finger-tip save. The visitors earn another corner.

Vuckic earns a corner for Newcastle as his shot is deemed to have taken a deflection off a Maritimo player.

Luiz gets back on his feet and the play resumes.

It was a fair challenge from Taylor, I thought, but Luiz seems to be genuinely hurt.

Joao Luiz and Steven Taylor clash with each other on the edge of the Newcastle United penalty area, and the Maritimo player goes down clutching his face.

Another promising attacking move there from Maritimo. Simao and Sami are once again linking up with each other down the left flank, but the latter is caught offside when sent through.

Simao takes the corner but the Newcastle defenders clear it away with ease

Maritimo earn another corner, this time Santon is the one who concedes it.

The Maritimo supporters who have come to watch this game are singing loudly and trying to cheer their team, who have looked the better of the two teams at Estadio dos Barreiros.

Newcastle are really struggling to create any sort of danger for the hosts' defence, who have been largely untroubled thus far. The sun is shining, but not on Alan Pardew's side.

Bordeaux are currently winning 1-0 against Club Brugge in the other game in Group D.

Once again the Portuguese side find their way inside the Newcastle penalty area. Heldon shoots at the goal with his left foot from the right side but his attempt is wide and does not trouble Elliot.

Maritimo are looking very promising and attacking at the moment. They could have gone 3-0 up by now, give the number of chances they have had so far.

Newcastle survive a scare again, as a Williamson mistake creates confusion inside the penalty area. Sami shoots at the goal, but is thwarted again by Elliot.

Maritimo go close again, as Sami turns a corner towards the Newcastle goal. But Elliot is up to the task and makes a good save.

Now Davide Santos carves out a low cross from the left that is blocked, but then Amalfitano gets it and tries his luck, but in vain.

Another chance for Maritimo! Sami floats in a lovely cross from the left flank and if only one of his team-mates could have got a touch to it, then it would have been a sureshot goal.

The Maritimo players look very comfortable on the ball, more than their Newcastle counterparts in these opening minutes of the game, I must admit.

Gosling tries to send Ameobi through on goal from the left, but his pass is too heavy and Salin claims the ball with ease. Ameobi was offside anyway.

The hosts craft another promising attacking move, as Sami is released down the left flank and he cuts inside and edges closer to the Newcastle penalty area. But his final pass is disappointing.

Newcastle are struggling to retain possession of the football, as Maritimo are passing the ball but only in their own half.

The first chance of the game falls to Maritimo as Simao whips in a low cross from the left flank from the face of the Newcastle goal, but none of his team-mates are there to slot it home.

And here we begin, with Maritimo kicking off proceedings against Newcastle in this Europa League Group D encounter.

Maritimo's stadium, Estadio dos Barreiros, can host just over 8,000 spectators, but it will still be daunting for Newcastle.

The two sets of players are now coming on to the pitch as we near kick-off.

Kick-off is just minutes away in Madeira and you can follow all the action live here on this page.

Newcastle have never lost a group game in the Europa League. Can they maintain that record tonight?

Newcastle, who too finished fifth in the Premier League last season, have made a slow start to the 2012/13 campaign. Alan Pardew's side have yet to win since their opening day victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Maritimo, who are unbeaten this season, earned their place in the group stage of the competition by defeating Asteras on away goals after drawing 1-1 in Greece, and then Georgians Dila, winning 1-0 at home and 2-0 away.

It will not be easy for Newcastle to win tonight. Maritimo finished fifth in the Portuguese Primeira Liga last season and warmed up for tonight's game with a 1-1 draw with Sporting Lisbon.

Callum McLoughlin is the first one to get in touch with me. He emails me: "I think Newcastle's success will lay on Obertan and Amalfitaro tonight. If they perform well and give delivery into the box, then I think it'll be an win for the Toon. 2-1 for Newcastle with Taylor and Ameobi to score."

Substitutes: Maritimo: De Oliveira, Diogo, Rosario, Branco, Abreu, Fidelis, Adilson; Newcastle: Harper, Ferguson, Travernier, Marveaux, Abeid, Campbell, Sa Ameobi
