Papiss Cisse has been withdrawn from the Newcastle squad for the trip to Funchal in Madeira because of illness and his place has been taken by 17-year-old Adam Campbell.
Cisse's strike-partner Demba Ba was also missing from the party which flew out from Tyneside on Wednesday morning a day after his agent suggested he does not understand his current role at the club.
However, midfielder Sammy Ameobi was on the plane after confirming his return to fitness by playing in the Under-21s' 2-2 derby draw with Sunderland on Tuesday night.
