Bale: Likely to be rested

Joe Garner is cup-tied for Carlisle.

The on-loan Watford striker featured in an earlier round for Watford and will therefore be ineligible for selection.

Fellow loanee Kallum Higginbotham is available, however, and could replace Garner to start alongside former Huddersfield team-mate Danny Cadamarteri in attack.

Midfielder Paul Thirlwell (concussion) and defender Danny Livesey (head wound) were both forced off late on in Saturday's 2-1 victory at Coventry but should be fit. Striker Lee Miller (knee) remains a long-term absentee.

Victory at the Ricoh Arena extended Carlisle's unbeaten run to four matches and, Garner aside, manager Greg Abbott could be tempted to keep faith with an unchanged starting XI for the third-round tie against the Premier League giants.

Tottenham will make a number of changes from the team that beat QPR.

Tom Huddlestone, Michael Dawson, Steven Caulker and Andros Townsend are likely to make their first starts of the season while Gareth Bale, Brad Friedel and William Gallas will probably be rested.

Emmanuel Adebayor (hamstring), Kyle Naughton (foot), Scott Parker (Achilles), Jake Livermore (groin), Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Younes Kaboul (both knee) are out, but Heurelho Gomes has recovered from an ankle problem and will travel to Brunton Park.

Spurs (from): Lloris, Friedel, Gomes, Cudicini, Smith, Gallas, Dawson, Walker, Vertonghen, Caulker, Falque, Huddlestone, Mason, Bale, Lennon, Sandro, Jenas, Dembele, Dempsey, Sigurdsson, Carroll, Townsend, Defoe, Obika.
