Newcastle are through to the last-16 of the Europa League after a solid 1-0 victory against Metalist Kharkiv in Ukraine. Shola Ameobi scored the only goal of the game and it came from the penalty spot after 64 minutes. Papa Gueye's woeful back-pass was collected by Moussa Sissoko before he was brought crashing to the ground by Aleksandr Goryainov. Tim Krul then produced a string of spectacular saves to deny the hosts a way back into the tie.

90+4
Sebastian Blanco's cross is headed out by James Perch.

90+3
Optimistic effort from Jaja which Tim Krul holds easily.

90+2
We're into FIVE added minutes of stoppage time as Sebastian Blanco delivers a wonderful cross from the right, but nobody gets on the end of it.

90
Another booking as Tim Krul wastes time taking the free-kick.

89
Jonathan Cristaldo goes into the book moments later for catching Tim Krul.

88
Fininho is booked for pushing Yohan Cabaye off the field.

Yohan Cabaye is replaced by Gael Bigirimana as Newcastle make their final change.

87
SUPER STOP! Willian gets across his man to flick the ball towards goal but Tim Krul touches it onto the post.

86
Yohan Cabaye is back on his feet and back in action as Massadio Haidara slides in to concede a corner.

85
Yohan Cabaye is on the ground and requiring some medical attention. Referee Serge Gumienny tells him to get off the pitch if he wants to receive assistance.

84
Metalist head coach Myron Markevych is an unhappy figure on the bench while Alan Pardew looks one proud Newcastle manager.

82
The Magpies have held on for dear life in the last ten minutes, but you feel that time is just about up for the home side with the clock ticking.

81
Some respite for Newcastle as they earns a free-kick as Metalist make their final change. Sebastian Blanco replaces Edmar.

79
OFF THE LINE! James Perch saves Newcastle as he gets in the way of Jaja's effort at the back post.

78
Tim Krul made himself big for the first save before showing smart reactions to deny Cristaldo's right-foot curler at the second attempt.

77
GREAT DOUBLE SAVE! Magnificent shot-stopping by Tim Krul. He denies Jonathan Cristaldo not once, but twice with point-blank saves. Sensational stuff from the Toon man!

75
It's a double Newcastle change too as James Perch and Jonas Gutierrez come on for Papiss Cisse and Vurnon Anita.

73
Papiss Cisse is booked after getting annoyed with Metalist striker Jonathan Cristaldo.

72
Edmar looks to spead the ball out wide right, but Jose Ernesto Sosa cannot catch it.

71
Alan Pardew is preparing to make a change of his own now as Metalist throw the kitchen sink at his team.

70
GREAT SAVE! A mix-up in the Newcastle defence allows Willian in but Tim Krul makes a super stop with his right-hand to deny the substitute.

68
Marco Torsiglieri pushes Shola Ameobi to the ground, but no free-kick is given.

67
Papa Gueye makes the clearance as Newcastle go for the Metalist throat to see out his tie.

@TTaylergill Tweets: "Surely newcastle should go on and win now! C'mon the toon!"

66
So then, it's a couble change as Willian and Jaja replace Marlos and Juan Manuel Torres for the hosts.

65
Metalist Kharkiv now need two goals to go through in this tie and head coach Myron Markevych is planning changes.

63
Following a short delay the Newcastle striker tucks away his right-foot effort as Aleksandr Goryainov dives the wrong way.

GOAL!!! SHOLA AMEOBI

61
Papa Gueye's backpass to goalkeeper Aleksandr Goryainov is over hit and the shot-stopper brings down Moussa Sissoko for a stonewall penalty. Referee Serge Gumienny points to the spot!

60
Still goalless as we reach the hour mark in North-East Ukraine.

59
Shola Ameobi wins the header but Papa Gueye makes the clearance once again.

@r0ckstar Tweets: "Howay the lads....am a Geordie exiled in Seattle and following on line. Fancy a sneaky win 0-1 to the lads."

58
Papa Gueye nips in to poke the ball away as Sylvain Marveaux looked to take the shot on.

57
CHANCE! Great give-and-go from Sylvain Marveaux, who lashes his left-foot shot over the crossbar from a tight angle. Shola Ameobi was standing all alone in the box waiting for the cross, but it never came. Disappointing!

56
Jose Ernesto Sosa is penalised for handling the ball and Newcastle are back on the ball until Fabricio Coloccini gives it away.

55
I'll tell you something Ben. If it does go all the way, then it will be the first ever Europa League match to go to a shoot-out!

@ben_rochester Tweets: "I wouldn't fancy chances on pens so we need to get a goal soon. Fancy cisse to score and win 1-0."

54
At the other end Sylvain Marveaux lashes a rasping drive high and wide of Aleksandr Goryainov's goal.

53
Cleiton Xavier looks to make the ball dip from not much of a run up, but it goes over Tim Krul's crossbar.

52
Yohan Cabaye jumps all over Cleiton Xavier's back for a free-kick about 30 yards from goal and in a central position.

@casperladd says; "Watching the live commentary on sky sports score centre COME ON NEWCASTLE. Toon Army!"

50
I get the feeling that the first goal is becoming ever more important in this tie and whoever gets it will go on and win it.

49
Marlos hits the ground easily after being handled out of the way by Massadio Haidara, who has already been booked.

@brownie4605 Tweets: "We can do this, keep possession keep the crowd quiet and get that precious away goal, up the tempo lads!"

48
Marlos turns away before delivering a cross from the right, but Newcastle have enough men back to make the clearance.

47
It would mean plenty of travelling Darren, especially if Anzhi Makhachkala come through their tie. They lead it 3-1 going into the clash in Germany tonight. Flight to Moscow anyone!

Darren Tighe emails in to say: "If Newcastle go out tonight I'm sure they won't be too disappointed, need to concentrate on the League and getting enough to be safe and build for next season. I'm not sure who they get with a win tonight but if it involves a lot of travelling it could be bad news."

46
The winners play Anzhi Makhachkala or Hannover in the last 16 and they kick-off at 8:05 GMT. I think I may have mentioned they were kicking off at the same time as this. My apologies. The home side get the second half underway then.

Metalist Kharkiv are now 5/4 to claim victory with our friends @Skybet, who make Newcastle 7/2 and the draw 5/4. Newcastle to win in 90 minutes is 15/8 while a success on penalties is 10/1. I went for a 1-1 scoreline tonight - which would send Newcastle through after 90 minutes - and was priced at a steady 11/2 and is now 6/1. It remains goalless in this Europa League last-32 second leg clash between Metalist Kharkiv and Newcastle in Ukraine. The Magpies have looked comfortable in possession and came closest through Papiss Cisse's effort late in the half. The home side had their best opportunity fall to Jonathan Cristaldo, but he could only head wide from a corner.

45
Jose Ernesto Sosa's free-kick is met by Sylvain Marveaux at the near post. There will be just one added minute of stoppage time at the end of this half.

44
Newcastle debutant Massadio Haidara is booked by referee Serge Gumienny after he felled Cristian Carlos Villagra.

43
CLOSE! Shola Ameobi collects the ball on the edge of the box before laying it off for Papiss Cisse, but his strike with the outside of his right-foot is parried away by goalkeeper Aleksandr Goryainov.

41
Fininho guards the ball to deny Papiss Cisse the opportunity to win the ball back for his side.

40
Fabricio Coloccini does well to get his foot on the ball from a Metalist free-kick.

39
CHANCE! Jose Ernesto Sosa wins his side a corner - their first of the game. His delivery finds Jonathan Cristaldo free at the back post, but the striker's header is poor and falls harmlessly wide of the near post.

38
Edmar's shot is well blocked before Danny Simpson concedes the throw.

37
Shola Ameobi flicks the ball on, but Papa Gueye reads the flick and gets Metalist moving forward.

36
The Magpies will be happy to soak up this pressure and counter-attack.

35
The men in yellow are growing in confidence but Juan Manuel Torres then hands Newcastle the chance to break.

34
Jose Ernesto Sosa's outswinging free-kick from the right is headed away by Papiss Cisse on the edge of the area.

33
Jonathan Cristaldo is quick to go down again from Fabricio Coloccini's challenge.

32
Alan Pardew throws his hands in the air as his side give the ball away in midfield. Luckily, Jose Ernesto Sosa's shot fizzes way wide.

30
Cristian Carlos Villagra again finds space wide right, but this time his low ball in is hacked away to safety.

29
Cristian Carlos Villagra turns away from his marker before Massadio Haidara tracks back.

28
Marlos spreads the ball out wide right and the cross is headed wide of the near post by Jonathan Cristaldo. That is Metalist's first sight at goal in this match!

27
Cleiton Xavier struggles to keep control of the ball, but Newcastle give the ball away.

26
Marlos handles the ball outside the box but Yohan Cabaye outswinger from wide right is punched away by Aleksandr Goryainov.

25
Referee Serge Gumienny is quick to blow his whistle from the resulting corner, although I'm mystified as to where the foul was in the box.

24
Shola Ameobi earns his side a corner after solid work to put his foot on the ball as Metalist looked to clear.

23
Cristian Carlos Villagra's wasteful cross is easily collected by Tim Krul, who has had little to do so far in this match.

22
Alan Pardew has his pen and paper on the touchline making notes and barking out orders.

21
Yohan Cabaye makes a well-timed tackle on Juan Manuel Torres, despite some jeers from the home supporters.

20
Clever stuff from Jose Ernesto Sosa who twists and turns before eventually losing control.

19
Metalist seem to have set up in a 3-5-1-1 formation now as they look to match Newcastle in the middle of the park.

18
The pitch looks frozen in patches, which is not ideal for either side, although Newcastle seem to be handling the situation better.

17
Shola Ameobi shows great feet before his left-foot shot hits Cleiton Xavier and just slides past the near post.

16
The Magpies are on top in terms of possession so far in this contest, but apart from that Sissoko half chance, they have yet to really test that Metalist defence.

15
Moussa Sissoko cuts inside and creates an opening, but his low left-foot drive is easily claimed by goalkeeper Aleksandr Goryainov.

14
Clumsy by Moussa Sissoko to bring down his marker. Both teams are struggling to adapt to the playing surface here.

13
Massadio Haidara is felled this time. Newcastle send the ball into the box through Yohan Cabaye but it's headed away.

12
Another foul as Cristian Carlos Villagra hacks down Sylvain Marveaux. Referee has a word but doesn't book him.

11
Cleiton Xavier's right-foot effort from 30 yards flies harmlessly over the crossbar.

10
Now Fabricio Coloccini takes down Jonathan Cristaldo and the Argentine is happy to go to ground.

9
Papiss Cisse gives away a cheap free-kick after bringing down Jose Ernesto Sosa.

8
Sylvain Marveaux is caught in an offside position even though he was looking right across the line. He shouldn't be getting caught off after collecting the ball on his chest.

7
Referee Serge Gumienny had a word with both players, but play goes on and Newcastle are looking comfortable on the ball.

6
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is angry with Jonathan Cristaldo after claiming he elbowed him in the face as he came running back to the edge of his area.

5
Metalist are currently fourth in their domestic league, a massive 15 points behind leaders Shakhtar Donetsk. They're back in action from the winter break at the start of March when they due to take on Metalurh Donetsk at home.

3
Shola Ameobi finds a pocket of space ahead of him and plays the ball into the area where Metalist defenders crowd around Papiss Cisse before clearing.

2
There are about 500 Newcastle fans who have made the trip to Ukraine where the temperature is around the minus one mark. Immediately Metalist keep possession of the ball until Yohan Cabaye wins the ball back.

1
The atmosphere is a bit special at the impressive Metalist Stadium which is packed. The home side are wearing their all-yellow kit while Newcastle are in their traditional black and white stripes as we get underway.

Mickey Boy, Newcastle Fan In Glasgow says: "I have my fingers crossed for A 1-1 score draw. Going to be really tough test but Come On The Toon Army!"

1745
The winners of this tie will play either Anzhi Makhachkala or Hannover in the last 16. The Russian club lead the tie 3-1 from the fist leg, so will be firm favourites to advance despite facing a tricky trip to Germany tonight. I'll certainly keep you abreast of the situation at half-time and full-time.

Richard Evans is backing an away win in Ukraine tonight: "I reckon Newcastle will win. I'm taking a big risk but 2-0. Lets hope that if we do score, there are none that aren't counted."

1735
Agree with you Christopher. But you can't blame Alan Pardew for setting up in a defensive fashion tonight. The hosts have a 100 per cent record at the Metalist Stadium in this season's competition, so he'll leave Shola Ameobi up front on his own and sit with five in midfield. I would do the same!

Christopher Jones emails in to say: "Praying NUFC get the win tonight! Bit worried he will put Cisse on the right though where he is wasted! People knock him but he had the ball in the net twice last week!"

1730
You would fancy the home side tonight Declan, especially in 90 minutes. But remember, they are still in pre-season in Ukraine, so maybe Newcastle would be the favourites if they could take it to extra-time. Thoughts Newcastle fans? Email Raz...that's me! at razwan.mirza@bskyb.com or Tweet me: @RazMirza and I'll publish as many as I can.

@Deco2002 Tweets in to say: "Gonna be a good match tonight Raz. Can't wait to see who's gonna win!"

Metalist Kharkiv are 5/6 to claim victory with our friends @Skybet, who make Newcastle 100/30 and the draw 5/2. Moussa Sissoko to score first and Newcastle to win 1-0 is a 66/1 shout while Papiss Cisse to score first and the Magpies to win 2-0 is 95/1. Yu can get odds of 40/1 for Alan Pardew's side to win in extra-time or penalties tonight. For the hosts, Jonathan Cristaldo to score first and Metalist to win 3-0 is 55/1. I'm going for a 1-1 scoreline tonight - which would send Newcastle through after 90 minutes - and is priced at a steady 11/2. METALIST TEAM NEWS: Head coach Myron Markevich keeps faith with the 11 men who secured a 0-0 first leg draw on Tyneside to give themselves a slight advantage with a place in the last 16 at stake.

NEWCASTLE TEAM NEWS: Cheick Tiote misses out on Newcastle's crunch clash in Kharkiv tonight through illness. The Ivory Coast international is one of five men who started the first leg at St James' Park not to feature in Ukraine with he, Davide Santon, Steven Taylor, Jonas Gutierrez and Gabriel Obertan making way for debutant Massadio Haidara, Danny Simpson, Vurnon Anita, Sylvain Marveaux and Shola Ameobi.

FC METALIST KHARKIV: Goryainov, Villagra, Gueye, Torsiglieri, Fininho, Torres, Edmar, Marlos, Cleiton Xavier, Sosa, Cristaldo.

SUBSTITUTES: Disljenkovic, Berezovchuk, Shelayev, Blanco, Krasnopyorov, Jakson, Willian.

NEWCASTLE: Krul, Simpson, Yanga-Mbiwa, Coloccini, Haidara, Sissoko, Anita, Cabaye, Marveaux, Shola Ameobi, Cisse.

SUBSTITUTES: Elliot, Perch, Gosling, Gutierrez, Bigirimana, Obertan, Steven Taylor.

REFEREE: Serge Gumienny (Belgium).

Here come the teams...

1706
Metalist have a full squad to pick from - they are still in pre-season in Ukraine so only match fitness will be a concern. Head coach Myron Markevych said: "We both still have an equal chance. We still think we can go through, but so will they. I only know how my team play. But we are trying to win of course. It depends on our opponents but we always play with an offensive outlook."

1705
The Magpies' only success in all competitions on the road to date came at Aston Villa on January 29, and that has been a source of intense frustration. However, they will run out to face Metalist knowing that a draw, as long as they score, will send them into the last 16 after the 0-0 stalemate on Tyneside last week. Pardew said: "I will take a draw if it is a score draw because that means we will go through. We have had a lot of problems away from home because of a lack of availability, and we have those players back now and have increased size of the squad. Performances will get better." Newcastle might have been preparing for their trip to the Metalist Stadium holding a 2-0 lead after striker Papiss Cisse had two first-leg goals controversially ruled out for offside.
