Paul Reid: Nursing an ankle injury

Scunthorpe defender Paul Reid is doubtful for the home midweek tie.

Reid turned his ankle during the weekend defeat at Crewe and although he lasted the full 90 minutes the Iron skipper may miss out.

Manager Brian Laws will assess Reid's fitness before deciding whether to recall fellow centre-half David Mirfin alongside Niall Canavan.

Mirfin has only recently returned from a two-month lay-off due to a knee injury.

Laws, who has no other new injury or suspension worries, is expected to retain Akpo Sodje and Karl Hawley up front.

Sodje is searching for his first goal since joining the Iron in early January, three games ago.

Midfielder Josh Walker returned to the substitutes' bench on Saturday following an eight-game absence due to an ankle injury and illness and is pushing for his first appearance since late November.

Ricardo Rocha and David Connolly are injury doubts for struggling Portsmouth.

Defender Rocha came off during the first half of the 3-2 defeat by Colchester on Saturday with an ankle knock and striker Connolly had to be withdrawn at the interval after tweaking his hamstring.

Caretaker boss Guy Whittingham will see his threadbare squad reduced to just 15 senior players if the experienced duo are ruled out.

Gabor Gyepes is poised to return at centre-half while Liam Walker could replace Connolly in the starting line-up after coming on for the Irishman at the weekend.

Pompey have lost their last seven League One matches and are now just two points ahead of bottom club Hartlepool.
