Hibernian and Aberdeen failed to produce a goal as the two struggling sides served up a lacklustre encounter under the Easter Road lights.

Aberdeen - who had new boss Derek McInnes in the dug-out for the first time - had not won away since December, while Hibs had yet to win a league game on their own patch in the same period.

In truth, those statistics rarely looked like changing over a challenging 90 minutes - despite the best efforts of Leigh Griffiths.

Kevin Thomson's free-kick was flicked on by the head of James McPake to Griffiths early on but the Hibs striker's overhead kick was always off target.

Griffiths then latched on to a long ball and forced a decent stop from Aberdeen goalkeeper Jamie Langfield with a venemous first-time hit from 18 yards.

The in-form Griffiths, who was carrying the home side's main goal threat, turned provider to tee up Danny Handling but the latter's tame finish was in keeping with the tone of the rest of the evening.

The impressive Tim Clancy then fired over a decent cross which broke for Eoin Doyle but his snap shot from 10 yards came back off the goalframe.

Paul Hanlon's brave clearance prevented Josh Magennis from giving the Dons the lead against the run of play.

But the action was soon down the other end, Alex Harris' shot being blocked by Joe Shaughnessy before Griififths produced the highlight of the night.

The on-loan Wolves man picked up the ball wide on the right and cut inside before letting fly from 35 yards to force Langfield into an acrobatic save - a rare moment of artistry on a largely attritional night.
