Southend manager Phil Brown could hand debuts to all four of his summer signings for the visit of the Pilgrims.

New club captain John White is expected to take his place in defence following his summer move from Colchester.

Fellow defender Ben Coker is also likely to feature while midfielder Will Atkinson will also be hoping for inclusion.

Former Aldershot man Craig Reid could start in attack after agreeing a one-year deal on Thursday.

Plymouth boss John Sheridan will be without suspended defender Maxime Blanchard for the season opener.

The 26-year-old was sent off for a professional foul on the final day of last season and will miss the first two games of the 2013/14 campaign.

Sheridan has a wealth of forwards to choose from, with new boys Lewis Alessandra, Marvin Morgan and Reuben Reid all in contention to face the Shrimpers.

Summer signings Luke McCormick, Dominic Blizzard and Rommy Boco could play some part.
