For the visitors, Andy Carroll will be unable to face his former club as the Hammers striker is suffering with a heel injury, while George McCartney (knee) is also sidelined. New signing Razvan Rat could make his debut off the bench, with fellow new arrival Stewart Downing named in Sam Allardyce's starting line-up.

On the team news front, Newcastle are without Steven Taylor, who serves the first of his three-match suspension following his red card against City, while Jonas Gutierrez is also missing, but through injury. New loan signing Loic Remy is also unavailable as he is still recovering a calf injury, but Davide Santon returns, having missed Monday's defeat at the Etihad with a hip problem.

Newcastle are rated at 5/4 to beat West Ham today according to our friends at Sky Bet, with the Hammers at 11/5 to emerge victorious, while it is 23/10 for the match to end in a draw. Nolan is 8/1 to score first against his former club and 16/1 to secure a brace, with Papiss Cisse at 40/1 to net a hat-trick.

The Hammers, meanwhile, will have been thrilled to have kicked off the new term with a competent 2-0 win over newly-promoted Cardiff City, with Joe Cole and Kevin Nolan grabbing the goals at Upton Park.

The Magpies only narrowly avoided relegation last season, finishing five points above the bottom three, and were dealt a big blow on Monday as they started the new campaign with a 4-0 loss to Manchester City. Alan Pardew will now enter this weekend's clash with the pressure firmly on his shoulders, having come under plenty of criticism following some less than impressive performances from the Tynesiders.
