The full-back has returned to United after leaving for Celtic in 2006, and having spent last season at Bristol City in the English Championship.

United will be without suspended defender Gavin Gunning after he was sent off against Hibernian last week.

St Johnstone midfielder Gary McDonald returns to the squad for the Scottish Premiership derby against Dundee United after recovering from a head knock.

Saints will also have midfielder Murray Davidson and defender Frazer Wright available after both players shrugged off knocks.

Goalkeeper Alan Mannus is still out of action with a shoulder problem while midfielder David Robertson has started training following a leg break.
