FT: Newcastle 2 Liverpool 2

Suarez has his free kick saved by Krul and the whistle blows for full time. Newcastle 2 Liverpool 2 is the final score and it's been a fantastic first game back in the Premier League following the international break.

Suarez now does get a free kick and it's in a far more dangerous position. Right on the edge of the area, slightly to the left. Suarez eyes it up.

Suarez goes down heavily by the byline but there is no free kick given. Krul will take his time over the goal kick.

Liverpool pass the ball around the Liverpool box before Luis Alberto tries a shot from long range but he gets it all wrong. Krul is unmoved as the ball sails over the top of his crossbar.

The short corner comes to nothing but 10-man Newcastle have the ball back and are frustrating Liverpool by keeping possession.

There will be a minimum of four added minutes at St James' Park and the home side have a corner.

Frantic stuff in the Newcastle area. Suarez finds Sturridge down the right and he plays the ball in over the advancing Krul but the Newcastle defence does enough to get it away.

Henderson and Gerrard look to create another attack for the away side but Gerrard's passing lets him down this time and it's over hit through to Krul.

Corner to Liverpool on the left and Luis Alberto whips it in. Krul punches away before Newcastle clear and Remy is on the break. Cissokho gets back to make a great challenge.

No excuses for Debuchy as he goes into the book for a late tackle on Moses.

Five minutes left and Sturridge almost finds the winner. Gerrard sends over another inch-perfect cross but Sturridge can't convert at the back post.

Another yellow card, with Sturridge going into the book for a reckless challenge on Gouffran.

Glen Johnson is now replaced by Raheem Sterling, who is straight into the action down the Liverpool right.

Henderson has another volley from the edge of the are but doesn't improve on his earlier effort. It again loops up over the bar.

Newcastle are camped on the edge of their own box with Liverpool passing left and right in an attempt to open them up. Gerrard sends in another lovely angled ball and Debuchy has to head behind for a corner.

Moses linking well with Gerrard, who finds Suarez but his attempted through ball doesn't come off.

Sammy Ameobi has come on for Ben Arfa.

Cabaye is leaving the field, with Vurnon Anita coming off the bench in his place.

Another great chance for Sturridge, with Moses finding the England man, whose shot is mis-hit and clips Gerrard on the way wide.

The tempo has really increased since Liverpool's equaliser and Newcastle will do well to hold on.

Suarez has really come alive now and he flicks the top of the bar with a rasping volley after being found by Cissokho. He probably should have done better.

So close for Sturridge again as he slides in to convert a Luis Alberto cross. The ball creeps wide but the flag was up anyway.

GOAL!!! (Sturridge) Moses finds Suarez down the left and he unselfishly cuts the ball back to Daniel Sturridge, who heads home for his 20th goal for Liverpool.

Kolo Toure now booked for a rough-looking challenge.

Chance for Suarez who darts into the box and fires in a low shot, but Krul makes the save.

Tiote with an attempt on goal but it goes harmlessly wide.

Henderson looks for a one-two with Moses but the ball is cleared for a corner. Moses meets the ball in but it comes off the back of his head slightly and goes wide.

Gouffran the latest name in the book for a late tackle.

Gerrard sends in a wicked ball but nobody can get on the end of it.

Sturridge attempts to run straight at Newcastle and makes it into the box but he is tackled by a combination of defenders.

A bit of a lull in play and that won't suit Liverpool. The away side really needs to crank up the pace and put pressure on the 10 men of Newcastle.

Change for Liverpool now with Luis Alberto coming off the bench in place of Sakho.

Henderson sends a fine ball out to Johnson, who sends it back to Henderson on the edge of the box. His volley is over the top.

Remy on the break for Newcastle but Skrtel is across to make the block. Gouffran sends in a cross but it's behind for a goal kick.

Dummett now called into action in his own half, heading out for a Liverpool throw.

Sakho goes to ground following a heavy Tiote tackle.

Liverpool find themselves trailing again after looking so dominant. This is now building up to be another classic between these two sides.

GOAL!!! (Dummett) What a story for young Paul Dummett, who was a first-half sub. Cabaye at the heart of it again as his lofted free-kick goes all the way to the back post where Dummett is able to finish. Very poor defending from Liverpool, but take nothing away from the young goalscorer who slotted in from a couple of yards out.

It looks a bit 'attack v defence' at the moment, with Liverpool looking to find a winner. Moses reduced to a long-ranger which is far too high to trouble Krul.

Cissokho tries to get past Debuchy on the left but the full-back makes a good tackle. Cissokho not really convincing as a make-shift wing-back.

Newcastle working hard trying to keep the away side at bay, Gouffran again the man tracking back and doing what was required.

Suarez tries to run straight at the Newcastle back-line but his 'nutmeg' doesn't quite come off and he's soon back on his feet after going down rather tamely.

Home crowd on their feet again as Remy looks to be in on goal before Skrtel makes the tackle. The replays show it was a good tackle from the centre-half, who just got a toe-poke on the ball. Remy possibly should have done better.

Gerrard concedes another foul in the middle of the pitch and the crowd want to see another red card. Neither were bad fouls in truth, but this was arguably more worthy of yellow.

Glen Johnson cuts inside onto his left foot and shoots low but Krul makes a solid stop. Suarez and Moses then make a mess of things following the resulting corner.

A bit disappointing from Cissokho on the Liverpool left but the Reds soon have it back and are seemingly playing a patient game with the extra man.

Liverpool keeping possession in the early stages of the second half, Henderson and Gerrard seeing plenty of the ball.

Newcastle kick-off for the second half.

Steven Brassell has kindly been in touch at half-time, emailing: "Unfortunately after several attempts and constant possession, Liverpool yet again dropped to the opponents level and conceded a goal!!! Now having a man sent off we pulled a goal back, but are we then going to capitalise on this?? Doubt it, 2-2 final score, poor show Rodgers."

Sky Bet have a number of half-time PRICE BOOSTS to check out, including Suarez to score next and Liverpool to win 3-2 at odds of 33/1. Gerrard to score next is 10/1.

It's 1-1 at half-time at St James' Park and no shortage of incident. Newcastle deservedly in front through a wonderful Cabaye goal but not many arguments about the Liverpool penalty and subsequent Yanga-Mbiwa sending off. Liverpool will be very hopeful of going on to win this now.

Gerrard is booked for hauling down Cabaye in the centre of the pitch.

There will be just a couple of minutes added on at the end of the first half.

Tactical Newcastle substitution as defender Paul Dummett is brought on for Moussa Sissoko.

Suarez now being booed by the home side, but that can be expected. Gerrard tries to get on the scoresheet again but his volley goes over the top.

GOAL!!! (Gerrard). Fresh from his England heroics, the Liverpool skipper cooly slots the penalty low into the left corner for his 100th Premier League goal.

RED CARD! Yanga-Mbiwa is sent off for Newcastle after bringing down Suarez, who was in on goal. Its was Sturridge who found the striker with a great pass and Gerrard now steps up to the spot...

The striker now intercepts a Tiote pass before having an attempt on goal himself. It's a decent effort arrowed down towards the bottom corner but Krul gets down to save.

Suarez just holding his hip in some pain for a moment there but he's still standing and play goes on.

Another great shot on goal from Newcastle and it's Sissoko with the effort. Mignolet is up to the job this time, beating the ball away diving to his left.

Newcastle keeping the ball nicely now and probing away. Gouffran takes on his man down the right but can't quite manufacture a chance.

Cabaye finds Ben Arfa is a pocket of space behind the Liverpool midfield but he's stopped in his tracks before Cabaye tries another curling shot from distance. This one is just too high.

Cissokho finds Moses on the Liverpool left but Gouffran is back covering and makes a fine tackle to stop the attack.

Suarez almost finds Kolo Toure but there's no joy for the big centre-back.

Johnson makes a good run forward for Liverpool and the ball deflects out off his marker for a corner.

Cabaye running things in the middle now but his long-range pass is wasted this time.

Moses picks up a good position and tries a one-two with Suarez which doesn't quite come off. Sturridge then fails to create anything from a promising position on the right.

Suarez again fails to link up with his strike-partner Sturridge and Newcastle win it back.

Liverpool really on the back foot now as Newcastle look to build on their lead. The home crowd is certainly fired up now.

Remy does well on the left but there's nobody in the middle to convert his cross. The home side then win a corner on the right and goalscorer Cabaye will take it.

Cabaye sends in a free kick from the right but Liverpool just do enough and Remy can't quite get on the end of it.

Sakho does well at the other end in stopping Gouffran but his clearance goes out for a throw to the home side.

Suarez finds space at the back post, controls brilliantly and clips it back to Sakho, but his effort isn't good enough.

Liverpool try to hit back straight away as Toure goes forward and forces a corner.

GOAL!!! (Cabaye) What a strike from Cabaye. The playmaker is allowed to roam forward from the half-way line and unleashes a dipping, swerving shot which beats Mignolet and finds the bottom corner.

Yet another corner to Liverpool, with Suarez finding Gerrard at the back post. The Liverpool captain nods it back to Skrtel but his attempt balloons over the top.

The resulting short-corner isn't anything special but Liverpool win a free kick on the left touchline, which Tiote gets his head to, but it flies behind for a corner on the right.

Suarez is found from the corner and his header on goal is nodded behind Santon on the line.

Johnson forces a corner for Liverpool on the right.

A few groans from the crowd as Williamson volleys a clearance up into the air but Liverpool's passing hasn't been a great deal thus far. Both sides struggle to fully gain the upper hand here.

Gerrard heads Cabaye's corner away and Henderson clears the next ball in from Debuchy. Tiote then steps in to block Moses on the break before Remy tries a wild one from all of 35 yards, which flies harmlessly wide.

Remy attacks Glen Johnson and whips the ball in with his left and Skrtel has to head behind for a corner.

Debuchy lofts a ball up towards Sissoko but there's too much on it and the ball is claimed by Mignolet.

Liverpool's strong midfield starting to take command in the central third but Suarez and Sturridge yet to really link up.

Remy with his first meaningful contribution now as he cuts in from the left but his attempt on goal is less than good.

Liverpool emerge with the ball following a scrappy battle in the centre of the pitch but Suarez is well marked and can't shrug off Yang-Mbiwa.

Moses makes his first run forward and he finds Sturridge on the right but the England man fluffs his shot, which is easily claimed by Tim Krul.

Remy yet to make a real impact on the left side for Newcastle but he was in fine form before the international break and he doesn't need many chances.

Gouffran with a nice touch or two for the home side but it's wasted as Cabaye's pass goes straight out for a Liverpool throw-in.

The corner was a poor one, headed away by the Newcastle defender at the front stick and the home side now look to launch an attack down their right.

Lots of possession in the middle of the park for Liverpool and Suarez now forces a corner on the left.

Gerrard sprays a nice ball to the left but Aly Cissokho falls over under no pressure and concedes a throw.

Newcastle right back Mathieu Debuchy tries a long-range strike but Mignolet gets down comfortably to make the save.

Cabaye floats in a free kick which comes to nothing but then almost finds Ben Arfa with a long ball over the top. Skrtel was just up to the task with the clearing header.

Gerrard makes a promising burst forward and gets the ball into Suarez who plays a neat one-two but can't latch onto the reverse ball. Gerrard is bundled over but no hint of a penalty.

Ben Arfa seemingly playing in a floating centre-forward role and he takes on Sahko down the right flank by the byline but he can't find a cross.

Liverpool maintaining possession and passing between their three centre-halves.

Liverpool get the action under way and the away fans are already in full voice.

The teams are in the tunnel and the atmosphere is building as we approach kick-off time.

Michael Ewart writes: "Right decision by Pards to drop Cisse, really strong lineup for the Toon, how bout a thrilling 0-0?"

Chris Green from Huddersfield writes: "It's been incredibly boring without the Premier League, but I'm glad it's back, and what a match to kick things off! Liverpool are, in my opinion, the better team, but doesn't mean that it will be plain sailing for them this lunchtime. Coming to St James' Park can be a difficult assignment for any team and the Merseysiders may think this will be an easy match to win, but this should not be taken for granted."

Ryan Farnworth writes: "I think it will be a close game with a Liverpool win 2-1 with Suarez and Sturridge Netting one apiece and remy scoring for Newcastle."

This fixture has thrown up some memorable matches down the years and here's hoping today's encounter lives up to expectations.
