Danny Ings: Scored both goals against QPR

Harry Redknapp's QPR side had not lost this season and were well in the match until the influential Ings struck in the 65th minute.

He unleashed a shot from the centre of the area and then netted a second from the penalty spot in the 88th minute after being fouled by Joey Barton.

Until then the match had been evenly matched, with the biggest talking point being the bizarre 15th-minute dismissal of Burnley mascot Bertie Bee - ordered to buzz off by referee Simon Hooper after an exchange with the linesman.

Burnley had the better of a goalless first half but QPR had the first shot on goal in the seventh minute when Barton's cross was struck by Karl Henry from just inside the area.

QPR goalkeeper Robert Green nearly gifted Burnley an opening minutes later when his jittery kick fell to the predatory Ings, who could not quite get the ball under control as he bore down on goal.

There was a roar of anticipation from the home crowd every time Ings gained possession and in the 13th minute he danced away from Clint Hill's challenge before being cynically brought down by Barton, who was seemingly happy to revel in his role as match villain.

The resulting 30-yard free-kick was fiercely struck by the impressive Kieran Trippier and the nervy Green could only fumble the shot, forcing Hill to head behind for a corner.

Barton, who was booed throughout by the Burnley fans, earned a suspension in the 25th minute by receiving his fifth booking of the season for a foul on Keith Treacy.

And before half-time he was involved once again, shooting narrowly wide from 25 yards with what was QPR's best effort of the half.

Burnley emerged strongly from the break, Michael Kightly seeing an early shot deflected off target and Dean Marney causing headaches in the QPR penalty area.

There was a comical incident in the 64th minute when team-mates Barton and Niko Kranjcar appeared to tackle each other, only for referee Simon Hooper to give Rangers a free-kick.

Burnley took the lead a minute later when Vokes slid Ings through on goal, and he looked full of confidence in slotting low past Green.

The home fans took their dislike for Barton too far in the 69th minute when objects were thrown at the midfielder from the James Hargreaves Stand, a plastic bottle appearing to strike the once-capped England player on the head.

QPR nearly equalised in the 72nd minute when Junior Hoilett's free-kick was nodded back across goal by Hill, only for Richard Dunne to head over from six yards with the goal gaping.

And it got worse for the Londoners late on, the only positive for Redknapp being the decision not award Barton a second yellow card after he gave away the spot-kick that Ings coolly converted for his 13th goal of the season.
