Crewe boss Steve Davis will be without striker Max Clayton for the clash with neighbours Port Vale.

The teenager fractured his ankle in the defeat to Wycombe in midweek and is set to undergo surgery.

Matt Tootle is nearing full fitness following a spell on the sidelines with a foot problem, while Ryan Colclough could recover from his hip and hamstring injuries in time to play some part.

Defender George Ray may return from the hamstring injury which has kept him out for the last few weeks. He faces a late fitness test ahead of kick-off.

Chris Lines and Carl Dickinson are doubts for Port Vale ahead of their trip to local rivals Crewe.

Playmaker Lines and defender Dickinson were both forced to pull out of training on Thursday but manager Micky Adams has his fingers crossed the duo might be available for Saturday's derby clash at Gresty Road.

"Chris Lines has been ill during the week, hasn't trained (on Thursday) and we are hoping he will be back in training on Friday," said Adams, who will definitely still be without left-back Daniel Jones (foot).

"Carl Dickinson has an infection in an open wound on his shin and he's not been able to train (Thursday) either, but we are hoping he will be back in on Friday when the antibiotics kick in. So, a slight doubt but nothing major."
