Despite taking the lead early on, Forest fell behind to the team managed by former Reds coach Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

Matt Derbyshire added to his goal against Chesterfield in the week with another from the penalty spot in the seventh minute before substitutes Jordan Faucher and Roy Bakkenes struck in the second half to put the Belgian side ahead.

But Paterson, a recent arrival from Walsall, ensured the game finished all square when he turned midway inside the Antwerp half before knocking the ball between defenders and keeping his cool to finish with nine minutes remaining.
