Nadir Ciftci's stunning second-half strike proved to be the difference in what was a useful workout for the Latics.

Summer signing Grant Holt made his first appearance on home soil and almost marked the occasion with a goal when he thumped a header against the woodwork.

Debutant Thomas Rogne also forced visiting keeper Radoslav Cierzniak into a fine save before Ciftci's strike stole the show.
