Partick sunk by Craig strike

Liam Craig's second-half strike was enough to earn a 1-0 win for Hibernian at Partick Thistle on Monday night.

Conditions were tricky at a rain-soaked Firhill but it was the hosts that dominated the opening period and were unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.

Their best chance came just before the interval when striker Kris Doolan fluffed his lines when he nodded miserably over from close range.

It was Doolan again soon after the break with a fine opportunity to break the deadlock, only to fail to sneak the ball past goalkeeper and captain Ben Williams having been put through clear on goal.

The visitors though, looking to bounce back from last week's 3-0 defeat against Inverness, settled their game and found the net after an hour of producing little threat.

Thistle keeper Scott Fox had had nothing to do and his first proper job was to pick the ball out of the net after Craig curled a rasping shot past him in the 68th minute.

Earlier in the day Thistle revealed that Euromillions winners Colin and Chris Weir had given £750,000 to allow the Maryhill club to create a new youth academy.

But it was Hibs boss Pat Fenlon and the travelling support who hit the jackpot by leaving Glasgow with all three points to take them level on points with fourth-placed Aberdeen.

It was tough on the hosts who are still looking for their first home Scottish Premiership win of the season.
