FT: Spurs 3 Dinamo Tbilisi 0 (Agg: 8-0)

Comfortable win for Spurs then, and the result on the night never looked in doubt. Defoe, Holtby and Carroll did plenty to strengthen their case for a squad place, but confidence will be flying as they head into the North London derby.

Defoe will not be happy there. He bursts through the defence and rides the challenge of the defender, but the referee books the striker for diving as he looks for a penalty.

88
Brilliant effort with little backlift from Kane, and only Loria keeps him at bay again with a great save.

Seturidze is the final substitution for Tbilisi, coming on for Grigalashvili.

84
The last question is really whether Jermain Defoe will get his hat-trick. A narrow offside call denies him another opportunity.

Merebashvili will now be replaced by Khocholova for Tbilisi.

Lewis Holtby comes off to a rousing reception, with Mousa Dembele taking his place.

76
Defoe again flashes an effort just wide in his search for a hat-trick.

73
Kaboul bludgeons his way forward amidst calls of a foul, but the Frenchman continues and cuts back to Carroll, who's effort is well blocked.

72
Promising stuff from Carroll and Kyle Naughton on the Spurs right, with the full-back's fizzing delivery into the area creating problems for Dinamo.

Holtby scored a cracker for Spurs' U-21s this last week, and he's opened his Spurs account tonight with another stunner. From 20 yards out he arrows a Carroll pass in off the underside of the crossbar.

65
Tbilisi get there first real attempt on goal. Vouho's glancing header skimmed a yard wide from Khmaladze's free-kick.

62
Back to Sigurdsson for another strike on goal. It's a beautiful effort from the midfielder but it hits the frame of the goal and bounces back out.

60
Holtby takes his turn next and from 20 yards out his effort flies over. Spurs are after a big score here.

57
Jermain Defoe was never passing there. A lofted ball gives him space to run into and, despite Sigurdsson racing forward, Defoe shapes up to fire an effort just wide.

Zeki Fryers is Spurs' next substitution, with Kyle Walker being replaced.

55
Sigurdsson takes his opportunity next from Defoe's pass. The Icelander's effort curls just into the side of the net.

54
Jermain Defoe pirouettes excellently to evade the defender after Holtby's pass, but it's a great save to deny the striker a hat-trick.

48
Flash of a chance for Vouho who races onto a loose ball but, tracked by Vertonghen, sprays his shot into the side of the net.

Harry Kane replaces Andros Townsend in Spurs' only half-time change.

Christopher Green from Huddersfield has been impressed so far by the dominant Spurs showing: "Tottenham have performed rather well in this match so far even though they're only leading by the two goals. They've had a lot of chances, and it's only a matter of time before they take more."

Who's impressed you so far then? Has anyone forced their way into AVB's first-team thoughts? Remember, you can send in your thoughts and predictions by e-mail at Matthew.Stead@bskyb.com, or on Twitter at MattStead91.

Impressive showing from Spurs so far then, albeit against a Tbilisi side lacking confidence. Holtby, Defoe, Carroll and Townsend have shone for the home side, but they look very strong all over despite the fact it's more or less a second-string side.

Spurs double their lead on the stroke of half-time. Walker's footwork is excellent and bamzboozles the defence, allowing Sigurdsson to play the ball into the danger area. Predictably, it's that man Defoe who is there first to make it 2-0.

45
Two minutes of stoppage time at White Hart Lane.

42
Spurs were in complete control before the goal but Defoe's strike has merely strengthened that. They look very comfortable.

It's the breakthrough for Spurs. Sigurdsson's ball into Holtby creates plenty of space as a Dinamo defender lays prone. Spurs play on though and Holtby's excellent reverse pass leaves Defoe to apply a great finish.

38
Townsend has switched wings in search for the ball. His initial cross is well defended but falls straight to Carroll, who gives the ball back to the Englishman. Only a brilliantly-timed Khurtsilava prevents him from getting into a dangerous position.

Early change for Tbilisi is forced through an injury to Kvirkvelia, who is replaced by Glisic.

31
Positive from Holtby as the interception opens up space for him across the box. He continues trying to work a shooting opportunity but is blocked off, leaving Carroll to fire a volley just over.

30
Defoe looks very keen to make his mark tonight. Another run ends in his path being blocked when passes elsewhere looked a more positive option.

28
Very controversial decision from the referee there. Defoe wriggles through into the Tbilisi area and a tangle with Dzaria results in the Tbilisi defender inadvertently handling the ball, but the free-kick is given against Defoe.

21
Carroll once more at the heart of things, intricately lofting the ball onto an onrushing Defoe. The striker's shot is well-worked but also well saved, and he's also called offside.

Merebashvilli is next in the book for a late tackle.

17
Townsend is a very confident boy right now. Plenty of potential passes, including a clean-through Walker, but the winger flashes a shot just wide.

Very heavy tackle from Sandro now who's straight into the swing of things on his Spurs return. Goga is the victim, and Sandro gets a yellow card.

15
Townsend is typically lively on that right-hand side and when Defoe's pass gives him the space he needs, the new England call-up's cross is just a little too high for Sigurdsson.

14
Spurs look so assured at the back. Promising signs for the squad depth all over the side for AVB.

13
Excellent work from Kaboul as he steps out not once but twice to intercept a Tbilisi move, allowing Townsend to give Defoe the chance to shoot, and the striker's effort tumbles just wide.

12
Carroll again threads the play together for Spurs, nearly playing in Sigurdsson down the left but it's some good defending from the Georgian side.

10
Spurs look very comfortable in possession here against a more harried looking Tbilisi side. No real chances for either side yet though.

5
Tom Carroll will likely serve as Spurs' playmaker today and he nearly slips in Defoe with a neat slide-rule pass.

3
Andros Townsend was the Spurs star last week when these two sides met, and the confident young winner is looking for a similar impact today as his shot flies over.

2
Dangerous play from Loria as he delays a long kick upfield and is nearly caught by Defoe.

Just a couple of minutes left to kick-off then as Spurs look to wrap up this Europa League play-off. Feel free to keep your predictions and thoughts coming via e-mail at Matthew.Stead@bskyb.com, or on Twitter at MattStead91

Spurs fans seem to be in jubilant mood, and it's certainly understandable given their summer so far. Lee Tomlinson is another of the optimistic faithful, although he does have one complaint: "Another week another good signing or 2! Looking good. Glad Defoe is getting a start hope they don't sell him, we need to keep SOME English players!! COYS. Another 5-0 please. But why is kaboul captain? We need someone who can concentrate for 90 mins to be captain!!"

David Newman believes that tonight's line-up epitomises Tottenham's strength: "Watching from home in Israel. Maybe a so called second team but it shows what tottenham have in depth this season. A few of them will want to impress AVB, not least Defoe, so we could see some goals despite the 5-0 first leg victory. 3 or 4 -0 to Spurs"

Tony Bullman is confident ahead of tonight's game, but has his sights set further down the line: "3-0 tonight with the kids out! Rest the lads for when we take the enemy to the cleaners!! COYS!!!"

Spurs rest a few players but they still manage to field a strong side. Andros Townsend will hope to continue his great form, while it's good news for Sandro as he's handed his first start since January. What do we think of that side then?

Dinamo Tbilisi: Loria, Kvaratskhelia, Khmaladze, Merebashvilli, Khurtsilava, Kvirkvelia, Grigalashvili, Goga, Gvelesian, Dzaria, Vouha. Subs: Zarkua, Khochlava, Seturidze, Dvali, Papava, Glisic, Shashiashvi

Tottenham: Friedel; Walker, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Naughton; Carroll, Sandro; Townsend, Holtby, Sigurdsson; Defoe. Subs: Lloris, Fryers, Capoue, Dembele, Paulinho, Kane, Soldado.

Andros Townsend and Roberto Soldado were perhaps Tottenham's key men on that day, who will be their stars tonight? And what do you think the score will be? We'll have team news coming up, but you can send in your thoughts and predictions by e-mail at Matthew.Stead@bskyb.com, or on Twitter at MattStead91.

Spurs go into the second-leg tonight with a five-goal lead thanks to an impressive performance in Georgia. That lead should give them plenty of space to rest key players ahead of Sunday's crunch derby clash with Arsenal, but Andre Villas-Boas certainly won't be complacent.

Good evening and welcome to tonight's live commentary of the Europa League clash between Tottenham and Dinamo Tbilsi at White Hart Lane.

Kick-off is at 2005 BST...
