Live: Fenerbahce 0 Arsenal 3

An excellent night for the Gunners as they cruised to a 3-0 win in their Champions League play-off round first-leg clash at a very disappointing Fenerbahce. The one blow being a nasty-looking head injury to Laurent Koscielny.

Excellent from Szczesny again as he pulls off a fine stop to deny Emenike's well-struck volley. There will be three added minutes.

The lively Walcott is replaced by Monreal.

Emenike gets in between Sagna and Mertesacker but sends his header over the bar.

Good stop from Szczesny to deny a Kadlec volley as Arsenal suffer a rare lapse at the back.

Fenerbahce also make a change as Meireles is replaced by Potuk.

Podolski comes on for Giroud, who put in a decent shift for the Gunners.

Kadlec went into the book for the challenge that gave away the pen.

GOAL! Arsenal rampant as Giroud fires home from the spot after Kadlec brings down Walcott in the area.

Walcott goes down and Arsenal have a penalty.

Szczesny sees yellow for time-wasting.

Demirel gives the ball away and Walcott is in but he blazes over the bar, while at the other end Meireles fires across goal.

Sow is allowed to turn and get his shot in from the edge of the box but it goes just over.

Bruno Alves goes in the book for a challenge on Mertesacker.

GOAL! Arsenal double their lead as Ramsey takes aim from 25 yards and although Demirel got his hand to it he couldn't keep it out.

Emenike is on for Webo, who had a bit of a stinker up front.

Fantastic run from Wilshere before he tests the palms of Demirel - great stuff from the Arsenal man.

Webo tries his luck from distance but screws his shot horribly wide.

Szczesny takes a blow to the face after bravely keeping out Sow's effort but he's fine to continue.

It was a lovely move from the Gunners and the are are almost in again as Walcott faces up to Demirel but the keeper does well to keep him out.

GOAL! Arsenal finally ahead as Wilshere plays in Walcott who crosses to the far post for Gibbs to sweep home. Excellent move

Ramsey closed down in his own half and Kuyt tries his luck from 25 yards but his effort flies just over the bar.

Gonul on at half-time for Irtegun for the home side.

Gabriel Sutton says: 'In some ways this first half summarizes Wenger's time in charge (so far). They've done the difficult things right in having so much the ball and quieting the home crowd. But they've not done simple thing which is to have a shot and test the keeper. I'm sure the lack of spending is frustrating for the fans but to a degree I would defend Wenger on this. They've had so many targets this summer but haven't been able to clinch the deals, is that Wenger's handling? As for this game, he shouldn't change too much, but he'll want the likes of Giroud and Walcott to be more clinical.'

Sibbo's prediction after the opening 45: 'I think arsenal will win this game, walcott to score first goal and when we score one then they will win 2-0 come on arsenal.'

Hisan Anjum's half-time conclusions: 'You can draw 3 conclusions watching that first half. 1) UEFA referring standards are very inconsistent and woeful 2) If Arsenal had signed Suarez or another top striker we would be ahead now; and 3) If Arsene had signed a CB like everyone knew we needed to, we would be covered for any red cards/injuries. Spend some money Arsene, we're stretched thinner than plastic wrap! Should have been 2-0 to Arsenal watching how Fenerbahce are performing.'

It's all level at the break in Istanbul and despite all their possession, Arsenal will be disappointed not to have broken the deadlock. Surely Fener can't be this bad again in the second half!

Wilshere slides in Giroud down the left edge of the area but the striker fires his effort well over the bar.

There will be three added minutes following the injury to Koscielny.

Lovely work from Ramsey in and around the Fenerbahce area but Walcott can't get his shot away 12 yards out.

A rare spell of good possession from the home side but despite some pressure on the Arsenal box it all comes to nothing.

Cazorla plays in Wilshere down the left but the England star's floated cross is well claimed by a leaping Demirel.

Walcott plays a lovely one-two with Rosicky but he can't beat his man in the box and Fenerbahce clear.

Huge blow for the Gunners after Koscielny is forced off but they are so dominant it shouldn't be a huge problem.

Koscielny has blood flowing from his head and is replaced by Jenkinson, with Sagna switching to the centre.

Webo goes in the book for a really high challenge on Koscielny, who looks to be in a bad way.

Great turn and run from Walcott but it comes to nothing. On the evidence of the opening half-hour, the Gunners will be kicking themselves if they don't take a lead back to London.

Kuyt just kicks the ball out of play under no pressure at all and it's fair to say that the home fans aren't happy! At the other end Ramsey pulls a shot wide from the edge of the box.

Fenerbahce win a corner after good work by Sow and Kadlec down the left but the Gunners comfortably clear.

Cazorla nearly finds Walcott with a lovely pass but the ball is cleared, only as far as Rosicky, whose cross is headed wide by Giroud. Arsenal well on top after 20 minutes.

The England man is back on and looks to be okay thankfully.

Wilshere down after being crowded out in midfield and he looks to be in some discomfort.

Lovely passing football from Arsenal finishes with Gibbs' cross being cleared for a corner which comes to nothing.

Finally some positive play from the home side as Kuyt puts in a good cross from the left but Koscielny clears well with a thumping header.

Kuyt finally gets a touch on the ball but he's comfortably offside. Hardly seen anything of Fener going forward so far, with Arsenal players working hard to deny them space.

Fenerbahce looking nervous and giving the ball away at will. Arsenal need to take advantage of this while they can.

Walcott has a crack from distance but his shot is easily blocked. Arsenal much the better side so far.

Walcott nearly in on goal after good work from Giroud but the keeper is out quickly to gather again.

Sagna works an opening down the right but his high cross is comfortably gathered by Demirel in the home goal.

We're underway and Arsenal are on the front foot right away. Positive opening from the Gunners.

Mitch Galvin from Cincinnati is expecting woe for Arsenal: '2 Years ago Arsenal dodged a bullet against Udinese. I fear that tonight will mark the beginning of Arsenal finally hitting rock bottom. It's been happening ever since they made the Champion's League final in 06, but it will finally come to an end, as will their history as a "top 4" club.'

The teams are on their way out in Istanbul. Terrific atmosphere, as you always expect in Turkey.

Chris Green from Huddersfield is not so confident of Arsenal success: 'I think this could be a long evening for the Gunners if they don't improve on last Saturday's dreadful performance against Aston Villa. Fenerbahce have some good players and their stadium can be a frightening place for any visiting team, so if the Arsenal don't perform to their potential, then I can see a likely shock happening here this evening. MY PREDICTION: Fenerbahce 3-1 Arsenal.'

Danny from Potters Bar is feeling optimistic: 'Expect Arsenal to come back fighting after a disappointing weekend. Can see arsenal winning 3-1 tonight, Theo first then Giroud with a brace'

There are four former Premier League players in the Fenerbahce line-up tonight, most notably ex-Liverpool pair Raul Meireles and Dirk Kuyt. Joseph Yobo and Emre also feature.

If you fancy a flutter tonight, Arsenal are 13/10 for the win with Sky Bet, with the home side 9/4 and the draw 12/5. I quite fancy a bit of 1st goalscorer action, with Theo Walcott my fancy at 7/1.

It could be a tough night in store for the Gunners as they bid to reach the Champions League group stage yet again, but how do you think they will do tonight? e-mail me at
