FT: Celtic 2 Ajax 1

The result takes Celtic up to 3rd in Group H.

Celtic get their first win of this seasons Champions League with goals from Forrest and Kayal but did well to hang on after Biton was sent off and a late strike from Schone.

GOAL! Schone - Ajax desperately look to pull a goal back and after a long period of possession the ball is played into Schone on the edge of the are who curls a beautiful shot past the motionless Forster.

Forrest breaks down field as Celtic counter attack but his deep cross is cut out by Cillessen.

Balde comes on for Pukke.

Schone hits a wicked swerving shot from distance but Forster gets down to deny the midfielder.

Biton is sent off for a late tackle on Serero.

Blind takes a shot at goal from 25 yards out but Forster dives well to his right to deny the defender.

De Sa tries to get past Izaguirre on the outside but his cross rolls to van Dijk who clears the ball up field.

Forrest concedes a free kick for a foul on Bollesen but the cross is poor and is easily cleared by Ledley.

Serero has a great chance to get a goal back for Ajax after he goes unchallenged into the area but he scoops his shot over the bar.

Free kick is taken by De Jong after Ledley fouls Sigthorsson just outside the box, but the shot is hit against the wall.

Lustig makes way for Biton.

Van Rhijn tries to put in a deep cross but the ball runs away harmlessly for a goal kick to Celtic.

Fischer is replaced by De Sa for Ajax.

Ledley takes the place of goalscorer Kayal.

Forrest makes a driving run towards the penalty area but the ball is taken from him and kicked out of play for a corner by Bollesen.

Bollesen comes on for Poulsen.

Kayal turns Serero inside out with a great piece of trickery the midfielder then powers a shot at goal but the keeper gets down well to make the save.

Forrest returns to the action after receiving some treatment following a challenge on him in the Ajax penalty area.

Beautifully worked possession from Ajax ends with a shot from Sigthorsson but his shot is hit straight at van Dijk who clears the ball.

Samaras wins the ball on the half-way line and swivels to hit a first time ball for Pukki but it is just overhit and goes out for a goal kick.

The play becomes quite scrappy as Ajax press to try and trouble the Celtic defence. The home side look comfortable to try and attack on the counter.

Fischer delivers the corner after Van Dijk blocks his first attempt and the ball is deflected to Sigthorsson who curls his shot wide.

GOAL!! Kayal hits a curling shot from 25 yards out but Denswil deflects the shot and leaves Cillessen with no chance.

Serero bursts into the penalty area after some lovely neat build-up play by Ajax but the midfielder is denied by a great save by Forster.

Samaras receives the ball inside the Ajax half but has his shirt pulled back by Van Rhijn and is awarded a free kick. Mulgrew delivers the ball to Stokes at the back post but his header goes just wide of the mark.

Forrest goes on a direct run from off the right wing and fires in a low cross but it is played into Veltman and the defence clears.

Ajax get the second half underway.

Forrest gives Celtic the lead late in the half, despite the home side coming under long periods of pressure by Ajax.

Denswil is shown a yellow for the foul on Stokes while Poulsen and Van Dijk also go into the referee's book in the aftermath of the challenge.

Denswil blocks off Stokes as he looks to take on the defender and the referee points to the spot. Forrest slots the penalty past Cillessen to the keepers left.

Mulgrew takes a corner from the right and it causes the keeper some trouble as the ball was curling goalwards.

The atmosphere is really building inside as both sets of supporters are doing their best to lift the players.

Van Dijk takes on a long-range shot but the ball goes harmlessly wide.

Ajax again enjoy a spell of possession but the pressure they are being put under by the home side is making the opportunity to work the ball into a good position is being closed down quickly.

Ajax go back to their tried and tested method after a period of excitement and try and keep the ball but the ball is lost in their own half. Samaras attempts a cross to Stokes but it is cut out by Cillessen.

Mulgrew has a chance to put in a free kick after Poulsen fouled Pukki but his poor delivery falls to Forrest who has his shot blocked and is chased down at the other end by Sigthorsson before Kayal puts in a last-ditch tackle to clear the danger.

Izaguirre combines with Samaras again but Izaguirre's long cross is dealt with by Blind.

Sigthorsson is adjudged offside after he latches on to a through ball.

Poulsen looks the calming figure in the middle of the Ajax midfield and his pass to De Jong results in a foul after Kayal makes the foul. From the resulting free kick the ball drops to Poulsen in the box and his side-foot shot rattles against the post.

Celtic look to counter after Sigthorsson has a shot blocked by Van Dijk but the ball is wasted.

Celtic supporters turn their back on the game and start 'The Poznan'.

Celtic have some of their own possession as Samaras and Stokes take it in turns to advance into the Ajax half, but Samaras has the ball stolen before he has a chance to build on their good work.

Frank De Boer is becoming increasingly animated on the touchline as Ajax are lacking the sharpness in some of their passing.

Ajax are starting to gain the momentum with their spells of possession but Celtic are chasing them down quickly when they have the ball.

Ajax corner is taken Serero who plays the ball in short to Fischer but he wastes the opportunity with a poor cross.

Fischer tries a long-range shot but it is sent way off target.

Lustig puts in a forceful challenge on Fischer as he contests with the Ajax man in the air.

Mulgrew delivers the corner but the ball is played far too deep to cause any problems.

De Jong has a chance at the other end after he is given plenty of space on the right, but he crosses tamely into the arms of Forster.

Pukki puts in a dangerous cross but Stokes is unable to connect.

Forrest is being given licence to take on the right but is unsuccessful on this occassion.

Samaras nearly picks out Stokes after he's allowed space to turn deep inside the Ajax half.

Samaras surges into the Ajax penalty area as he looks to take on the defence but he has the ball taken from him by Veltman.

Izaguirre and Samaras combine well down the left flank, but the forward lets the ball run loose and he loses possession.

Free kick awarded to Ajax after Lustig slides in late on Cillessen.

Samaras looks in the mood tonight and his run into space creates a chance for Izaguirre to put a ball in the box but it's cut out by Van Rhijn and goes out for a corner.

Van Rhijn comes under pressure from Samaras deep inside the Ajax half and he loses possession momentarily.

Celtic gets us underway with the roar of the home fans willing on the Hoops.

Jon Rooney writes: "Surely we can get 3 goals, and 3 points on the board??"

The atmosphere is starting to build at Celtic Park as the home supporters turn up the volume as 'You'll Never Walk Alone' rings around the stadium.

Both teams come in to tonight's tie looking for their first win and with Barcelona and AC Milan also playing tonight the chance to close the gap between the top two teams is there for the taking.
