FT: Wigan 1 Zulte-Waregem 2

Wigan 1 Zulte-Waregem 2. Late heartache for the Latics. They will now have to win their final fixture and hope for favours from afar if they are to make the last-32.

Final seconds. Wigan go long through Crainey. He looks for Holt, who settles for a throw. Boyce with a low cross. Espinoza turns the ball on, but the whistle goes and the decision is Zulte's. Should be it.

Boyce clears from on the deck. Zulte on the ball, not what the hosts need. Time running out. Wigan's European fate now hanging in the balance. Long ball into the box claimed by Bossut.

Glum faces in the stands at the DW Stadium. Same old story for Wigan - see plenty of the ball but can't score goals. Need to address that issue urgently.

Three minutes of stoppage-time to be played.

Changes by either side. Caceres replaces Kums for Zulte and Holt is the last throw of the dice for Wigan as McArthur makes way.

Not going to be Wigan's night. They have controlled this game for long periods but look set to end it empty-handed.

GOAL ZULTE - MALANDA. Hammer blow for Wigan. Sylla holds the ball up really well in the box and has support flooding forward. He tees up Malanda on the edge of the box, who rifles into the top corner.

McClean still running himself into the ground. Not doing much good as McArthur goes into the book for a sly challenge. He bundles Kums to the floor.

Powell thinks he was forced another corner for Wigan, but the assistant referee disagrees. Latics striker was right, as Duplus got a touch. Another poor call from a poor group of match officials.

Sylla tugs at Powell. Free-kick to Wigan 40 yards out. Zulte put a wall in place. Not sure it's needed. Powell floats the ball towards Rogne. He gets above his man, but heads past the post.

Second change for Wigan sees Espinoza sent on in place of McManaman. He finds himself in the box immediately, but can't catch up with a McClean cross fizzed through the box.

Sylla somehow slips past three Wigan players. He goes left, before the ball is worked back to Hazard. Again, he tries his luck from a long way out. His shot flicks into the air and through to Nicholls.

Habibou on the counter. Hazard left all along at the back, but isn't spotted and a terrible pass from Habibou finds Boyce. Game opening up. McClean into Powell. Ball worked to McArthur, who sees a shot blocked on the edge of the box.

Boyce bombs forward and gets to the by-line. He looks to cut back for Powell, but Colpaert is well placed to block behind. McClean on set-piece duty now. He, like Gomez, can only find the hands of Bossut.

Zulte struggle to clear their lines and the ball drops nicely for McArthur. He works a yard of space and sees a low drive bobble inches past the post. Change for Zulte as N'Diaye replaces Skulason.

Zulte sill pushing plenty of men forward, they just aren't offering anything in the final third. They are preparing another change. This isn't a bad result for them. They see out another cross from McClean.

Space for Kums as he turns and heads for goal. He cuts back on himself and squares for Hazard. He likes a shot from distance, but sees this one blocked. Wigan smuggle the ball to safety.

McClean skips past one tackle, but not two. Skulason takes the ball and is bundled over. McClean not happy and needs to be careful as he has already been booked. He gives the referee a mouthful on his way past.

Powell down again. He pulled out of a challenge with Sylla, and ended up being caught on the thigh by a high boot. Could have got a free-kick, didn't.

Sylla's first touch sees him bundled to the turf my McArthur. Zulte offering less of an attacking threat now. Their latest move breaks down. All a bit scrappy again.

McManaman wins a throw off Duplus. Wigan then look left and find Crainey. He hangs over a dangerous cross. Bossut does really well to watch a looping ball into his gloves.

Conte making his way off. He is replaced by Sylla. Like-for-like change in the middle of the park. Fresh legs for the visitors.

Powell down holding his face. He might have got a finger in the eye. Not too happy, but will be okay to continue. Wigan play the ball back to Zulte, after they put it out.

Space for Crainey, who goes one more to McClean. He cuts inside and into the box, but a one-two with McCann doesn't come off. De Fauw leads a Zulte charge, but Crainey blocks his route to the box.

McCann down the Wigan right, and winning a throw. Boyce then finds Fortune, who lays back to McCann. His cross is cut out. Kums hammers long towards nobody.

Hazard takes himself. He fizzes the ball low towards the front post. It takes a touch off the wall and Nicholls has to palm behind. Set-piece falls into the hands of the Wigan keeper. He tries to spark a counter, but fails.

Conte finds space and picks out Hazard. He can turn and face Barnett. Belgian is too clever and wins a free-kick wide on the Zulte right. Opportunity to load the box.

Long throw from Crainey is touched on by Powell. Fortune able to get something on the ball, but can only loop it into the hands of Bossut.

Wigan working hard to close the ball down from the front. Zulte playing around them. Barnett has to concede a throw inside his own half. Kums loses the ball heading back towards his own goal. McArthur wants too long on the ball and De Fauw can pick his pocket.

Fortune's first touch sees him tangle with Malanda and concede a free-kick. Wigan now have two up top, but can they carve open an opportunity?

Powell caught offside. Barnett bundled over by Habibou. The game needs a spark. Change made by Wigan as Fortune replaces Gomez. Ironic cheers from the home support when Gomez's number is held up.

Habibou drifting wide in an effort to get involved. Patient play from Zulte, but Colpaert then plays the ball out. Movement on the Wigan bench. Fortune being readied.

McCann caught on the ball. Conte involved well forward again, but fails to thread a pass through a maze of legs and into Habibou. Wigan support now finding their voice.

Powell can't combine with Gomez. Expect changes to be made by Wigan up top imminently. As I say that, a loose ball falls kindly to Powell, who stings the palms of Bossut from 15 yards out.

Kums carries Zulte forward. Wigan have plenty of men behind the ball. Conte dinks into the box. Rogne gets a touch, but sees the ball drop kindly into the hands of Nicholls.

Card out again. McClean booked for kicking the ball away. He will now be suspended for the Maribor game, which could be crucial for Wigan. Needless from the Latics winger.

Powell now pops up on the left. Malanda comes with him and...puts the ball behind for a corner. Surely one of these will come off for Wigan? Gomez with a terrible delivery that barely leaves the floor.

Gomez over another set-piece - his umpteenth of the night. This one is fed low into the six-yard box, but Wigan have no-one running across the flight of the ball and Bossut can drop on it.

Wigan slow things down. They need to keep pressing. This game is there for either side to win. More good footwork from McClean and Malanda sees yellow for a cynical trip on the edge of the box.

Second set-piece is poor and nodded out by McCann. Zulte try again and Rogne has to nod clear at his near post. Wigan pegged back inside their own box. Wild effort from Hazard from 25 yards sails high into the stands.

Scrappy in midfield until Habibou gathers. Duplus picked out bursting down the left and McManaman has to track back and poke the ball behind. Corner to Zulte. Ball put behind for another.

McArthur feeds the ball down the right for Powell. He works a yard cleverly, but only has Gomez to aim at in the middle. His cross has to be pinpoint, and isn't. It drifts behind for a goal kick.

Guess what? Wigan have a corner. Gomez floats the ball over this time, but again Barnett can't make a telling touch. Zulte able to squeeze the ball to safety.

Zulte counter so quickly and have three on two for a time. Ball is feed into the feet of Conte. He wants to take a touch to set himself, and once he has done, Crainey can get in his face and block.

McClean does really well to play the ball off De Fauw and out for a Wigan throw. Crainey goes long towards Barnett, who fails to get a touch. Boyce gathers and has players to aim at. Gomez gathers, goes down in the box, but is waved to his feet.

Boyce crunches into a couple of challenges. Hazard left on the deck by McManaman. Wigan pulling no punches. Conte then handles and the hosts get the ball back.

Wigan win another corner. Gomez sends the ball into the box. Plenty of pushing and shoving and the whistle goes as soon as the ball is kicked. Not a lot doing, but the officials have been very fussy.

Crainey with another throw - a third in quick succession. McClean does really well to skip through two tackles. He hangs a cross to the back post, where Duplus can hack clear.

No changes at the interval by either side. Wigan looking to start brightly, and win an early throw. Crainey has few options, but McArthur takes the ball towards the corner flag.

Zulte get the second half under way.

Players back out for the second half. Coyle still barking out instructions. Fifteen minutes obviously not enough!

Remember you can also bet in-play at Skybet.com. Wigan now 4/5 to take the spoils, with Zulte 9/2 and the draw 7/4. You can get 5/1 on the Latics to win 3-1.

Wigan 1 Zulte-Waregem 1. All square at the interval. Latics have bossed the half and will feel this game is still there for the taking.

Long ball from Colpaert, but he fails to finds Habibou. McCann back to Nicholls. Better this time from the young keeper as he clears cleanly.

So close for Wigan. Gomez delivery whipped into the six-yard box. Rogne's run is brilliantly timed, but he glances across the face of goal and wide of the far post.

Hazard over the set-piece. Whipped delivery dealt with by Crainey. Powell gathers the loose ball and sets off towards the corner flag. He finds Gomez, who slips into the box. He is unable to get a shot or cross away. Crainey can and De Fauw knocks behind.

Nicholls now scuffs a clearance - looking a bit rattled. Zulte pressing in numbers. Hazard involved again and his attempted cross from the right deflects behind for a corner.

Frustration showing for Wigan. They will be feeling hard done by. They need to regroup, get to the break and then come again in the second 45. Malanda down but will be okay to continue.

Away support in fine voice. Set-piece not the best and is nodded away by McArthur. Wigan can now counter. Wrong pass played as Powell fails to catch up with the ball. He is then booked for getting in the face of the assistant referee as his fails to get a throw-in decision.

Zulte looking more lively now and are back in the Wigan half. Latcis need to clear their heads and get back to what they have been doing. Can't get the ball at the moment. Habibou wins a corner off Barnett.

Scores level and a nightmare moment for Nicholls. It was such a comfortable save that he took his eye off the ball before it was in his grasp. Wigan have bossed this but are now all square.

GOAL ZULTE - HAZARD. Gomez tries again from the corner. Dealt with by the first man again. Counter on for Zulte. Kums slides the ball into the path of Hazard. His shot from the angle of the box seems harmless enough, but slips through the hands of Nicholls. Terrible mistake from the Wigan keeper.

Yet another corner to Wigan - won by McClean. Gomez's latest delivery is dealt with by Habibou at the front post. Gomez gathers the ball again and McClean's cross is met by Barnett. His header flicks behind off Duplus.

Powell with a touch on, but towards nobody. Ball fed back to Bossut. Zulte trying to play their way out from the back -an effort to draw Wigan out. It's working, but the Latics keep winning the ball back.

Better spell of possession from Zulte as they peg Wigan back. Conte twists and turns, but no forward movement. Patient build-up, but Wigan untested. Duplus then catches Boyce as they challenge for a high ball.

Malanad through midfield and out to Hazard on the right wing. He is being kept very quiet at the moment. Zulte move inside, but a cross is blocked by Crainey.

Zulte taking a few chances at the back, but get away with them. Wigan pressing so high that they fail to make halfway. Ball does end up in the Latics half, but at the feet of Nicholls. His clearance is moved to Gomez, who hacks wildly at an attempted volley.

Good run by Hazard as he gets to the by-line, but Crainey blocks his path and concedes another corner. Better delivery this time, but it is whipped behind D'Haene and he is unable to turn his header goalwards.

Rogne sees a defensive header drift behind for a corner. Visiting support doing their best to raise morale in their side. Referee delaying the taking of another set-piece. When it does arrive, it is seen out by McArthur.

Wigan pulling men back quickly once they lose the ball. Zulte have no answer at the moment. They look bright on the counter, but have created little from normal play.

Powell battling well again, getting in behind his man. Bossut comes out to meet him and concedes a corner off his legs. Gomez's delivery is hung up again, and Bossut can claim easily. Zulte look to counter. Malanda's cross is blocked by Barnett.

Skulason shown the first card of the evening. He over-ran the ball and ended up catching McArthur as he stretched to retrieve it. Another harsh call as he wasn't overly high or late.

Very ambitious from Gomez. He collects a loose ball 25 yards out. He takes a touch, realises he has no support and tries to pull the trigger. His effort trickles through the ball and well wide of the target.

D'Haene down holding his head. He was caught by an arm from Powell. His eyes were on the ball and he had his arms up to get height on his leap. Referee has a word - looks to be a very picky official.

High boot from McCann. Slightly harsh, but Wigan soon get the ball back. Zulte struggling to string passes together. Frustration shows as Duplus clips McManaman's heels as he threatens to break clear once more.

Solid from Rogne as he gets his body across Habibou and is able to watch the ball behind for a goal kick. Wigan man got the better of the initial foot race, which doesn't bode well for the visitors.

Coyle, as you might imagine, looks very relaxed on the bench. No need for him to bark out instructions at the moment. On the field. Wigan win a free-kick wide on their right. Gomez clips the ball into Powell, but he can't keep it in play after slipping to the by-line.

Gomez goes short, before getting the ball back. He clips the ball to the back post, where Boyce is arriving. The angle is always against him and he can only nod behind for a goal kick.

Malanda with a useful drilled cross from the right, which Boyce can only hack clear. Zulte come again, but see a penalty shout fall on deaf ears. McClean races clear on the counter and forces Bossut into a smart low stop. Another corner to Wigan on its way.

Hazard leads a quick counter and has the Wigan defence back-peddling. He tees up Habibou 25 yards from goal. He shoots first time, but drags well wide of the target.

Gomez over the set-piece. Taking is delayed as the referee wants a word with D'Haene and McClean. Eventually the delivery comes in and Bossut is able to claim unchallenged.

Malanda nods forward to Habibou, who has dropped very deep. Wigan able to get a toe to the ball and McClean cuts inside off the left flank. He finds McManaman, who wins yet another corner - off Duplus.

Crainey back to Nicholls. Habibou hardly busting a gut to close down the Wigan keeper. Zulte soon back on the ball and Duplus is freed down the left. His low cross is met by Kums, but he slices wide from the edge of the box. Warning to Wigan.

Nice, patient build-up from Zulte. It takes them to the edge of the box, but the flag goes up. Wigan able to hammer down field through Nicholls.

Zulte counter through Hazard, but McArthur gets back at him and wins the ball on the slide. Wigan then look to surge forward themselves, but the final pass is lacking. Both sides giving this a go - as they have to.

Poor effort from Powell. He opts for power over precision and fires into the middle of the wall. McManaman then unable to keep the ball in play as he races after a stray pass. The ball does drop his way moments later, though, and Bossut pulls off a smart stop with his legs to keep the score at 1-0.

Crainey feeds a cross into the box, into the feet of Powell. He looks to take the pass and spin at the same time, but the ball bounces off him. Wigan remain on the front foot and D'Haene trips Gomez 25 yards out.

Gomez fires the ball in flat. Powell has to try and get across his man to meet the delivery, and has a tug at his shirt. Habibou happy to get the decision.

Wigan looking very comfortable. Zulte yet to get going. They will get their chances. Coyle's men keeping the temp high, though, and McClean wins another corner.

Head tennis for a moment, until McClean looks for Crainey on the overlap. Poor pass and the ball runs out of play before it can be poked back in.

Best possible start for the Latics. Zulte look shaky at the back. Gomez looking to capitalise again, but a risky back-pass has just about enough on it and Bossut can hack clear.

GOAL WIGAN - BARNETT. Corner is played short to McManaman, who gets to the dead-ball line and gets his head up. His cut back is sliced by Gomez into the path of Barnett, who sweeps home from 12 yards out.

Rogne fires long towards Gomez. He is bundled over by Colpaert. Needless challenge and another promising position for the Latics. Gomez takes himself, and his delivery is nodded behind.

Conte feeds a dangerous cross from the Zulte right towards the front post. Rogne slices behind from in front of Nicholls. Delivery is poor and Skulason can only prod behind as he comes to meet the ball on the volley.

Barnett gives the ball away and Kums can carry it over halfway. Wigan get men back quickly and keep the door bolted. Zulte happy to go sideways in the middle of the park. Comfortable in possession.

Powell working away up top, drifting out to the right. He does well to win a throw. Ball fed to McManaman, who hangs over a high cross. De Fauw able to hack clear for the visitors.

Gomez delivers and Boyce ends up inches away from getting a free header six yards out. The ball sails over his head and rebounds into the grateful arms of Bossut off the shins of Rogne. Zulte's marking non-existent.

McClean gets to a long ball down the left flank in the opening seconds. He fires a cross into the hand of D'Haene. Free-kick to Wigan by the corner flag.

Wigan get us up and running.

Teams are in the tunnel and we are almost ready for the off at the DW Stadium. Could be a big night for the Latics. There will be further opportunities to have your say at half-time and at the final whistle.

Worryingly for Wigan, they have only mustered three goals in their last six fixtures in all competitions. They might only need one tonight.

Caught the first meeting between these two and was impressed by Hazard - expecting more of the same tonight. If Wigan can keep him quiet, they stand every chance of picking up three points and a place in the last 32.

Tonight's referee is Ruddy Buquet from France.

Wigan team: Nicholls, Crainey, Rogne, McCann, McClean, Gomez, McManaman, McArthur, Boyce, Powell, Barnett. Subs: Pollitt, Shotton, Watson, Holt, Espinoza, Beausejour, Fortune.

The two sides drew 0-0 on Matchday One, a contest which saw Wigan put in a dogged display on their European bow.

Zulte are also still in the hunt for a top-two finish, though, and will be determined to collect a positive result of their own.

Maribor have been held 1-1 by Rubin Kazan in the night's other fixture in the group, leaving the Latics' fate very much in their own hands.

Wigan sit second in Group D at present and will book their place in the knockout stage with victory over Belgian opposition.
