Live: Newcastle 0 Man City 2

Thank you for all your comments tonight. Hope you enjoyed the commentary tonight. Make sure you join us again soon.

And thats it - City are through to join Manchester United, Stoke, Chelsea, Leicester, Southampton/Sunderland, Tottenham/Hull, and West Ham in the draw

Both teams just seeing this out now - Newcastle will rue that chance Cisse had - could've been so different. Will that save from Pantilimon net him a start on Saturday?

Remember the draw for the Quarter Finals is straight after this game

Silva takes on three defenders before firing just wide - he's made a big difference for City

Debuchy booked for a rash tackle on Negredo - pure frustration

Ball falls to Ben Arfa on the edge - great strike but its cleared off the line by Lescott - that had beaten the goalkeeper

william : waste chances that's what happens cisse should not of started! Morale will be getting low now

the crowd have given up, more and more empty grey seats are appearing

After he set up his goal Dzeko tries to repay the favour for Milner, backheeling into his path but Milner fires wide via a deflection

Its half time in extra time

Milner played a one-two with Silva and threads it in to Dzeko who takes it round Krul and slots home.

Newcastle still capable of getting one here - just need a bit of luck.. Debuchy's ball claimed easily by Pantilimon

Ben Arfa hits a great cross in, just headed behind by Lescott

Expertly crafted by Dzeko on the left side of the area - square to Negredo and he has the simple task of tapping it home

Navas crosses to Dzeko but he can't direct his header on target

Gail in Hong Kong - It's almost 6am here! I'm rooting for the Toon!

Keep your comments coming remember you can email me or tweet me @1rebs

Silva tries to find Dzeko but his ball is just too long

Ben Arfa's ball finds Cisse on his own, just the keeper to beat - and Pantilimon pulls off a great save - best chance of the night

Here we go then - 30 minutes to find a winner

Stew Convery : just like Sunday - City just turned up to spoil the game, and hopefully win it. City reserves away to Sunderland in next round !

Well, thats it - we've reached 90 minutes at stalemate - another 30 mins to come

City have looked in no rush all night really. It's Newcastle who have asked the questions... Silva's booked for kicking the ball away

Navas across towards Negredo, it's misjudged by Krul but Negredo cant get enough on it

Well, it looks like we're headed for a late night here at St James' Park.... just 4 mins added time to find a winner

Sissoko's ball in goes right across to Gouffran, his cross is cleared to cabaye, who wins a corner... Ben Arfa short to Cabaye - his cross is put inexplicably wide by Gouffran - luckily for him he was offside

Cabaye almost threads a delicious ball through to Cisse but its just cut out - really unlucky as Cisse wouldve been clean through

This is petering out really - can you see anyone coming up with a piece of magic? let me know @1rebs..

Ben Arfa is on for Dummett for Newcastle and Zabaletta replaces Richards for City

Corner cleared to Milnber on the edge - his shot is blocked and then scrambled clear... you sense City are building something here

Dzeko lays it into the path of Negredo but he takes an age to have a shot - eventually a weak chip is paled away by Krul - City's best chance

17 minutes to find a winner or we're all staying for an extra half hour!

A coming together between Richards and Tiote has led to the Newcastle man coming of worse - looked a painful one as Richards fell onto Tiote's leg... he looks to be ok

City having more possession in attacking areas now but still havent really challenged Tim Krul

Sissoko spreads it to Gouffron, he squares it to Cabaye who hits it from way out - well wide

Surprising sub from Alan Pardew - Cabaye coming on to replace Ameobi

Pellegrini has seen enough - on comes Silva for Rodwell

Krul comes out and is dispossessed by Navas.. he plays it back to Milner who has an open net to aim at - and puts it over!!!

corner is headed out.. eventually falls to Jack Rodwell but his shot is wild

Navas takes on Dummett and wins a corner

Gouffran plays the ball across to Cisse - but his header doest trouble the goalkeeper

Bean: I am going for a 3-0 man city win, with goals from Negredo and Navas!!

Navas plays it in, Boyata completely miscues his chance, its put back in by Negredo but Richards can't quite leap high enough to get his effort on target

Yanga Mbiwa is left isolated on the back post... he heads it straight to Navas- but then does well to block it for a corner

claimed easily by Pantilimon

Corner to Newcastle

Negredo in possession outside the box, floats it towards Dzeko but its claimed well by Krul and Newcastle come forward again

now we have a ball... Anita drives forward - strong shot but its saved easily

Debuchy finds a new career as a ball boy - actually leaving the playing area through one of the exits to retrieve the ball!! sack the ball boy!

Can anyone break the deadlock after half-time at St James' Park? Negredo is favourite to do so and available at 6/1 in the Sky Bet half-time Price Boosts along with Shola Ameobi (11/1).

Ivo: I am going for a 2-0 Newcastle win, just feel that it's our night for once!!

Paul Dummett is on for Newcastle, he's replaced Haidara

We're back underway in the second half

Oren....As a Newcastle Fan i am still annoiyed about Sunday But this performance so far today has been Very Good. But we need to take our chances. Maybe bring on Ben arfa to help create some chances and also put on Remy to finally finish it

James....I sense an upset tonight... 1-0 the magpies!

Oliver Bowman: ‏I'm going for a 2-1 win for Newcastle,They will dominate the second half like they have in the first.Exciting second half aswell!

Shaz : Newcastle look like they're gunna nick this one by a goal to nil. They're looking tight at the back.

What are you making of the game tonight? let me and the world know by emailing or tweeting me @1rebs

but they're still dangerous and better final balls from Milner and Richards might have seen them take the lead

It's been a decent display by the home side as they look to bounce back from defeat at Sunderland. CVity's reserves have looked slightly disjointed, as you'd expect from a makeshift side.

Its Half time - Newcastle have definitely had the best of the attacking play but they haven't broken through... will they be made to pay for it?

Tiote is booked - he went through the back of Negredo

Anita puts it in - Pantilimon comes and flaps at it but he's rescued by his scrambling defence

We're into 2 minutes of added time - Newcastle have a corner

Micah Richards storms through and takes a swing - but its an air-shot! Red faces all round!

‏@bradleykurt: Can't recall when City last fell to the Toon. I think with City having several men out to prove a point tonight it'll be 1-3 to them.

First attack by City for a good while - Rodwell gets in behind and pulls it across but there's no blue shirt there to turn it in

Anitas plays the free kick into the gap between defence and goalkeeper, Ameobi throws himself at it but can't quite get a touch

Booking for Javi Garcia for a clumsy foul on Haidara

Keep your views and predictions coming in - who's impressed you so far? or tweet @1rebs

you get the feeling Newcastle have to capitalise on this spell

Cisse crosses and its headed out by City - only to Anita with a great chance ... but he puts it wide!!!

Anita puts it in, Cisse meets it with his head, its blocked... he tries again but drags it across goal - Ameobi stabs it into the net.... but he's offside... unlucky but Cisse should have finished himself

Encouraging spell for Newcastle, just unsettling the City back four and getting the crowd behind them - another free kick here wide on the right

Great save by Pantilimon - Ameobi hits it after Cisse's shot was blocked. but the keeper gets to it and turns it round the post

Milner is down after a clash with Yanga-Mbiwa

Gaters: Newcastle are awful to watch - route 1 football!

Milner breaks unchallenged down the left - he has an age to put a ball in... but he puts it behind woefully..

Alan: Newcastle have a tough run coming up. I think if they don't win tonight following Sunday's derby defeat they could be in trouble.

Navas does so - but its cleared easily

Milner fouled by Debuchy - chance for City to put a ball into the area

As I say that Debuchy breaks down the right and crosses to Gouffran to head... but its slightly too high for him

Newcastle need to up the tempo to get the crown up for it I think... City are content to play it around. Newcastle need to upset their rythm a bit - get into them

another injury as Gouffran limps to ther touchline, but he's able to continue for the moment

More calm possession for City. many of this team will be hoping to take their chance tonight having been out of favour... Jack Rodwell battles his way forward but is crowded out on the edge of the box

Anita launches it towards Ameobi - his knockdown finds Cisse on the edge of the box but his shot is blocked

Good run from Negredo is ended by Yanga-Mbiwa - throw to City

braddd... þHoping we can bounce back from derby defeat and have a good cup run

Free kick to Newcastle is struck by Haidara but it hits the wall.. his follow up is wide but Newcastle are getting into the game now

City are forced into a substitution as Jovetic comes off with a calf injury - Negredo is on

Gouffron crosses and Cisse attmpts an overhead kick but misses it

Krul hits it long, it falls for Cisse in the box and.. he flicks it goalwards but its just wide - that was a chance

Newcastle have a free kick just outside the area... Anita crosses to Williamson - he heads it back across but its cleared

BlueMoonRising: I feel more confident about this back four than any game since Kompanys injury.

City still enjoying the majority of possession without really creating anything at the moment.. content just to pass it around

The Newcastle crowd are very quiet tonight. noise coming from the up in the gods where the visitors are situated

Barry: Hope mags get a stuffing

Rodwell threads it through to Jovetic but the linesman raises his flag - but he was well onside - harsh for City

Finally Newcastle have possession - a long ball over the top is too long for Ameobi

1.42 gone and Newcastle have yet to touch the ball!

Early possession for City in their own half - patient passing

And we're underway

Don't forget - I want your comments as we go through the night - let me know what you're thinking - whether you're watching on tv or not - email me or tweet me @1rebs

Remember, we play to a conclusion tonight - extra time and penalties if required

Here come the teams... the ground's not full by any stretch of the imagination...

Chris Green from Huddersfield...Really glad to hear that Joe Hart has been dropped - I have no complaints with Pellegrini's decision and hopefully, this will teach Joe Hart a lesson that he'll never forget. Don't get me wrong, Joe Hart is a good keeper, but his errors are out of the ordinary and he needs to be more consistent as this could hamper his chances of being selected for England if these unnecessary errors continue.

Rob in Oxford...End to end game tonight Newcastle really need to bounce back after the derby Newcastle to steal it in a 5 goal thriller cabaye off the bench to score the winner 3-2 Newcastle.

Nicky: Can't remember the last time we had a good run in this competition. It's obviously not City's strongest side but it's still pretty good. Apart from Ameobi (sorry Shola,I've never been a big fan) our team's not too bad, especially if we can get some service to Cisse and he has remembered to wear his shooting boots....which he seems to have misplaced some time ago. At least let's give them a game.

Connor Atherton... Big win for Newcastle tonight. The fans will want to see Cisse make more of an impact than he did against Sunderland

Manchester City are the odds-on favourites to progress in 90 minutes tonight at 4/6 with Newcastle 4/1 and a draw, meaning extra-time, 16/5.

Ben in St Albans: Interesting line ups where both managers want to put a decent side out with a few anomalies. so on that basis this has 2-2 written all over it then who knows....the toon hopefully...we need it more!

Matt: The team is more or less what I expected. I would have given Demichelis another run out instead of Boyata, so he can get some more minutes under his belt, but I suppose with the Kompany situation its too much of a risk......2-1 to City...

Kendo....Dorchester....Joe is a brilliant keeper and I feel for him......But where is Joe Corrigan? a brill keeper in the day for city. surely he is still around to give tuition.

Pétros Dawson : My prediction - man city 2 - newcastle 1

As expected then - Joe Hart is on the bench tonight - the question is... will he definitely be reinstated on Saturday, or is this Pantilimon's chance to claim the number 1 shirt

The team news is in....

Don't forget to get your views in to me so I can put them up on site - email me at or tweet me @1rebs

Calling Carlo For Liverpool... Please

One Liverpool Mailer wants a manager who isn't starstruck by the job. Plus why Milner has now become overrated, play-offs for the title, Ronaldinho and democracy..

James Milner: Jose's Perfect Player?

Probably. But presumably he would not swap one bench for another. We have mails on over-hyped players, Arsenal enthusiasm, UEFA, FIFA and naked dudes...
