Southend have received mixed team news ahead of the visit of Hartlepool as they look to get their promotion charge back on track.

Having overcome a fractured cheekbone, defender Luke Prosser missed Saturday's disappointing 3-2 home defeat against Exeter due to a calf injury and is again sidelined, along with suspended midfielder Conor Clifford.

Anthony Straker was only named on the bench against the Grecians after his partner gave birth on Saturday morning but he is back in full contention.

Striker Barry Corr is also expected to be fit and available despite being forced off towards the closing stages at the weekend due to a knee problem - with the Shrimpers aiming to end a four-match winless run.

Hartlepool's leading goalscorer Luke James is expected to shake off a dead-leg.

The 13-goal striker was forced off in the closing stages of Saturday's home win against Newport, but should resume up front alongside Marlon Harewood.

Neil Austin remains doubtful after missing the last two games due to a toe injury, so Jordan Richards is likely to resume at right-back.

Defender Michael Duckworth (double hernia operation) returned to the bench as an unused substitute on Saturday having been sidelined since New Year's Day and is hoping to feature.
