The left-back headed home a 41st-minute cross from Andreas Weimann as Villa were able to build on their 2-0 victory over FC Dallas 2-0 last Wednesday.

Fabian Delph showed plenty of early endeavour for the tourists before picking up a knock and was replaced by Kieran Richardson at the BBVA Compass Stadium on Saturday night.

Villa had enjoyed the bulk of possession and the pattern continued in the second half, despite a number of changes, with Darren Bent twice going close and Gary Gardner hitting the post in the final minute.

Villa manager Paul Lambert said: "Everything about this trip has been very good. It was hard in this game because of the heat. It's very hard to play in but I was delighted with them again.

"Dallas was warm but in Houston, it's a dead heat. It was really tough.

"But I was really happy with the team.I was delighted with them. It's been great. It really has. It's been a tough few days. But the lads have been excellent."
