Christian Burgess: Looking to get Football League experience under his belt

The 21-year-old defender appreciates that he remains some way down the pecking order at the Riverside Stadium.

He has more experienced centre-halves ahead of him, but he has travelled with the senior squad for their pre-season trip to Portugal.

Burgess believes he is improving all the time, but acknowledges that regular football is required if he is to really kick on.

He would be prepared to head out of Middlesbrough in order to get important minutes under his belt, with it possible that Tony Mowbray will allow him to make a short-term switch.

Burgess told the Gazette: "I'm taking things day by day at the moment.

"I'm going to keep working hard and try to force my way into the gaffer's plans or if not probably look elsewhere for first team experience, a loan move.

"I would like to get some first team football where you are playing for a win, for livelihoods, for people's mortgages.

"I'd like to get some League football and go on from there. But I'm just working from day to day because you don't know what can happen."

e was right to leave, but not just because of the money City were coming into. If I remember rightly he had a reasonable amount of chances to shine at City, but he never passed the bloody ball. Loads of aimless dribbles and 40 yard shots and not much else. I would say that if he had learnt to be a bit more of a team player he may have done better at City.
