Steve McClaren: In the frame for Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month

The new Derby County manager has been named on a four-man shortlisted along with the bosses of Burnley, Leicester City and Charlton Athletic after another exciting month in the second tier.

Middlesbrough's Albert Adomah, Wigan athletic defender Emmerson Boyce, Burnley striker Danny Ings and Henri Lansbury of Nottingham Forest are the four players in contention for Player of the Month.

Sky Sports here considers the managerial nominations.

Sean Dyche (Burnley)

Five wins out of five made it a perfect October as Burnley moved clear at the top of the Championship, conceding just one goal in the process. Dyche had his players working hard in unison, most notably in the 2-0 win over promotion rivals QPR.

Steve McClaren (Derby County)

He was not officially in charge for Derby's first match of the month but came down to the dressing room at half-time to help inspire a comeback in the thrilling 4-4 draw with Ipswich Town. The Rams collected seven points from their next three games as McClaren made an instant impact, instilling immediate belief in his new side.

Nigel Pearson (Leicester City)

Leicester are looking like serious promotion contenders after three wins from four October games - all by a 2-1 scoreline - lifted his team into second place. He has allied flair to a strong work ethic and a powerful structure to maintain their relentless start.

Chris Powell (Charlton Athletic)

Powell has returned to basics to guide his side through a difficult run of fixtures. Without a clean sheet prior to October, he reshaped his defence to register three of them - against Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool and Wigan Athletic - in an unbeaten month.

Sky Sports also considers what those players in the running for the monthly prize achieved in October.

Albert Adomah (Middlesbrough)

Adomah has been in superb form for Boro and popped up all over the front line in October, linking well with Kei Kamara and scoring two headers among his five goals. His best strike was an imaginatively deft lobbed finish in the 4-0 win over Doncaster Rovers.

Emerson Boyce (Wigan Athletic)

A key figure as a leader, Boyce's energetic displays were pivotal in Wigan conceding just two goals in four games. Always willing to cover and lead by example, he also glanced home a last-minute winner in the 2-1 derby win over Blackburn Rovers.

Danny Ings (Burnley)

It was a month to remember for the young forward. As well as making his England Under-21 debut, his dynamic and hard-working front play was rewarded with three goals, including both in the vital 2-0 win over top-of-the-table rivals Queens Park Rangers.

Henri Lansbury (Nottingham Forest)

A player growing in maturity and influence, Lansbury's class shone through in midfield for Forest. More vocal and disciplined in a holding role, he chose perfectly his moments to go forward with superb strikes against Brighton & Hove Albion and Bournemouth in his three goals.

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
