Friend was forced off late on in their 2-1 loss to Derby County on Wednesday, amid fears he had suffered a serious problem.

But Boro boss Aitor Karanka has revealed the problem is not as bad as first feared.

"The doctors tell me it's less than we thought and I'm happy because George is an important player for us and he's a player who gives everything on the pitch," said Karanka.

Lukas Jutkiewicz is also set to be involved for this weekend's trip to Birmingham City after suffering an injury in training earlier this week.

"He trained normally today and tomorrow he will be better and hopefully he can travel with the team," he said.

There is also an injury doubt to skipper Jonathan Woodgate but Karanka is hopeful he will be okay for this weekend.

"Jonathan didn't train because he had a little pain in his ankle, so we'll see on Friday and Saturday and if he's fit, he plays," he said.

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
