Former West Ham favourite Lomas was booed following the Sky Bet Championship home defeat, with a section of them calling for his head.

But after seeing Emmanuel Ledesma and Albert Adomah end their seven-game unbeaten home run in the league, Lomas was defiant.

"Of course I can turn it round," said Lomas, who spent eight years playing at West Ham.

"I understand fans want to win games of football and we have been on a pretty good run at home.

"But unfortunately our away form's been affecting us or we'd be a lot higher in the table.

"But we have been decent at home. We've got to remember that and the positives in that run - and we've got to bounce back away at Watford.

"We've got opportunities to bounce back over this Christmas period. It's a crucial period as there are so many games over a short space of time. You can pick up points and push yourself up the table.

"We've had a reaction all season from the players. We've had some disappointing performances and results but we've always been able to bounce back.

"They're all tough games but we've got two away games to get our away form going."

Four minutes after the restart Ledesma broke down the right, cut inside Paul Robinson and Nadjim Abdou and fired beyond David Forde from 20 yards.

The Argentinian was booked for his celebration after dedicating the goal to Stuart Parnaby, whose partner lost their child four weeks before it was due. Adomah wrapped up the points in the final minute, rounding Forde and tapping into an empty net.

Boro boss Aitor Karanka said: "It was very, very important for us because we are losing points in the last minute.

"Not conceding late was important for the squad. It's important for our defenders and for the keeper to keep a clean sheet.

"(Ledesma) played very well. He's the kind of player who deserves to play. He arrived at his opportunity and he took it.

"Boxing Day is my first one here. It's important for the people to come to the stadium to support us.

"The team is starting to take shape. I've said since the first day I'm very happy with this team. I can see them improve but we just need to win the points.

"I think this team deserves to win with a support that is always with us."

On the incident that saw Ledesma booked, he added: "It was horrible for us.

"We wanted to win the last game against Brighton for Stuart but could not make it possible. But our minds are on Stuart and for his family."

irst Townsend, now Chiles. What next ITV? Comedy that you can actually watch without vomiting up your own spleen? I'll be sad to see Matt Smith go though. I actually quite like him. Plus, he was good in Doctor Who.

wful, awful pundit. He was crap on BBC, and offered a little more analysis than Robbie Savage - apart from the delivery of banality in a sexy accent. Also, as I'm Irish he'll never be more then a slimy, hand-balling f**ker in my eyes.
