The 19-year-old has just returned from a loan spell at Nottingham Forest, but Boro have wasted little time in finalising a move.

The England Under-21 midfielder will spend the remainder of the season at the Riverside.

Chalobah is the second Chelsea player to make the move to the North East following team-mate Kenneth Omeruo, who joined Boro last week.

Chalobah will go straight into the Middlesbrough squad for their clash with Charlton Athletic this weekend.
