The game was fizzling out into a 1-1 draw at the Riverside after a George Friend opener for Boro had been cancelled out by Yossi Benayoun just before the break.

But Rangers were gifted a goal out of the blue as home goalkeeper Dimi Konstantopoulos went to clear a back-pass and a deceptive bounce followed by his air shot left Bobby Zamora free to tap in.

The London outfit sealed victory soon after through Ravel Morrison and Rangers assistant manager Bond admitted he didn't see it coming.

"It certainly was a late, late show," he said.

"It seemed both teams had accepted a draw then in the last minute I really don't know where those two goals came from.

"It was an amazing bobble to be fair to the keeper and it was a real gift for us."

Bond also confessed the Rangers bench had been far from happy when keeper Rob Green had pumped the ball forward, leading to the error.

"They had just had a good chance before that and I was just saying that Rob should have killed the game, played it short, kept possession but he knocked it forward then that happens," he added.

"We gave a goal away which is always disappointing but we clawed it back.

"Boro worked hard and they were good and made it hard for us at times. We had an attacking team and we were always going to be better with the ball than without it."

Boro boss Aitor Karanka was staggered by another late sucker punch.

"I don't believe it," he said. "I can explain what happened but I can't understand it. It has happened again.

"It was a game we did not deserve to lose. We had a good chance to win at one end and then suddenly we have lost the game.

"There was not much between the teams and we had chances but every week it is the same story. I just wish one game it would be us scoring in the last minute."

But Karanka refused to blame keeper Konstantopoulos for the pivotal moment.

"I don't blame him," he said. "We are a team. We win as a team and we lose as a team. Yes, he has made a mistake - the ball looked to bounce - but it doesn't matter who makes the mistake.

"For the rest of the game he played well and for 85 per cent, 90 per cent of the game the team played well and for this I am happy."

he uber commercialisation of the 90s has led to the point where this overly familar, try hard, jolly hockey sticks type fronts up a major football match on a weekly basis. Unlike the great presenters of yesteryear, I doubt he would even recognise the scent of Brut.

onfirmed. Nick Miller is a douche bag. Lazy, incoherent rant is what this article should be titled. And for the editor to have the temerity to pass this as acceptable writing is shocking. Ah well, anything for clicks right? You got mine. Well done. Your mother must be proud.
