Michael Higdon: Hopes to be the SPL's top marksman

Higdon produced three first-time finishes to put Motherwell 3-0 up and take his tally for the season to 15 SPL goals, one behind Inverness forward Billy McKay and level with Hibernian's Leigh Griffiths.

Higdon has 16 goals in total, equalling his personal record from last season, and he is determined to keep adding to the figure.

"Where I am at the minute I've got to have the ambition to finish top scorer if I can," he said. "It's quite hot up the top of that ladder at the moment but I've got to keep plugging away.

"But first and foremost it's just getting points on the board, that's what I'm interested in.

"The first goal was probably the pick of the bunch and the other two just fell nicely for me. But you've got to be in the right place."

Higdon was quick to recognise the part substitute goalkeeper Lee Hollis played in the victory despite conceding two goals in two minutes just after replacing Darren Randolph, who was struggling with a hamstring injury.

Hollis could do nothing about excellent finishes from Nigel Hasselbaink and Liam Craig and he saved Motherwell when he came off his line to make a late save from the Dutchman.

Higdon said: "He took a great catch and got clattered and then he come out to save Hasselbaink's shot. That's what we need, the subs to be on their guard. He's come on and done very well."
