McCall was unable to hide his disappointment at the performance as goals from Ivan Sproule, Richard Brittain and Iain Vigurs gave the hosts a deserved victory.

The result means County's Highland rivals Inverness Caley climb above Motherwell into second place following their win over Hearts.

"Fortunately I haven't had to talk about performances like that in recent months," McCall said. "In fact, I can't remember the last performance that was as limp.

"Ross County wanted it more. They played the condition of the pitch better than we did and just all over the park they were hungrier, that's not what you want to say as a manager.

"You can't always guarantee good football or great play but what you need to be able to guarantee is that you can run as hard as your opponent and work as hard and do all the dirty bits, which I thought Ross County did today.

"Any one of their players bar the goalkeeper could have been man of the match today.

"Defensively they were strong. From our point of view we can't accept another performance like that."
