Alan Pardew: Delighted at European draw

Pardew's men will play away from home first in Lisbon against the Portuguse giants over two legs next month.

United's manager will be hoping for a positive result on Thursday, April 4, before returning to Tyneside for the second leg on Thursday, April 11.

Newcastle saw off Anzhi Makhachkala 1-0 in front of a partisan home support of 45,000 to reach the last eight and Pardew is hoping the fans will give his side an edge once again.

"It's a great draw for us," the manager told the club website after watching the draw unfold in the canteen of the Magpies' Benton-based training centre.

"The Estadio da Luz is a great venue. I've been there and it's a fantastic stadium. Importantly, we are at home in the second-leg and that will give us an advantage.

"I'm sure we will have a full house for that. After what the stadium was like (Thursday) night, I know it will be another brilliant atmosphere, and let's hope we can bring a result back from Benfica in the first leg."

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.
