Newcastle are "disappointed" after learning that Wigan's Callum McManaman has escaped FA punishment for his tackle on Massadio Haidara.
m absolutely disgusted that I've been misquoted in saying that if a chance came up to join Arsenal I would be interested. What I meant to say is if Man United or Chelsea were interested......
FC league positions and points from last 4 seasons - 7 (61), 8 (52), 6 (58), 7 (63). Werner calls it progress, I call it mid table stability.
s there a PR agency covering Begovich, Odemwingie, Steven Fletcher and Grant Holt or something? Why would you offer a quote like that without having been announced by either club. #headsshoulderskneesandtoesgone

When the FA brought in this rule and agreed it with 'stakeholders' surely in the planning they considered occasions such as this where it wouldn't be fit for purpose? The referee was un-sighted and didn't see it.. okay. The assistant referee DID see it, but not properly. The fact he did see it however (though not properly) is grounds for no action. Hmmm. I think they are making it all up as they go along. The governing bodies are such a disappointment from top to bottom.

As I've said previously I don't think he went in maliciously, but that tackle was about as bad as it gets. Can those saying it wasn't as bad as is being made out give an example of a worse tackle (rather than elbows etc...) in the Premiership years (Keane on Haaland aside perhaps)? I guess there may be a few, but surely not many.

So let's get this straight........ The Newcastle assistant manager can end up getting charged over this incident but the Wigan player has got off it completely. Dave Whelan is an idiot, loves talking far too much.

@varicosergent. Trans World Sport. Ahhh, the brilliant thing about that was you just didn't know what sport was on next. Sometimes i wondered whether the commentator knew what was comming on next. You try and script South American football, to Aussie Rules, to Surfing, to Basketball to Tennis to whatever you fail. Sit back and absorb it all like the hallucinogenic scene in 2001 a Space Oddity. I also suspected everyone cheated in kabbadi. I only ever heard badi.

@hump3 - The Saturday mornings of my youth were spent watching Trans World Sport, Kabaddi and American Football on Channel 4. You will never find a greater or more varied juxtaposition of sporting programmes anywhere on the planet.

It is a sh*t system but we are stuck with it at the moment, the officials should be punished for missing it!! Not the ref as I think we would all agree he did't/couldn't see the action from his angle and I have respect for the fact he apologised afterwards but the linesman and 4th official must have seen it and so should be punished. I still haven't seen a statement from McManaman has he publicly apologised? He may have done so fair do's but if not he needs to at the very least to show a bit of sportsmanship.

Problem is that the FA set precedent in the Ben Thatcher incident some years ago. The referee gave a free kick and booked Thatcher for an aggressive shoulder barge, when it was then later shown to be a clear elbow to the head that nearly killed the player (Mendes I think) they reviewed it and gave hit a 7 match ban. Clearly the referee saw the incident and made a decision but they decided that was'nt severe enough punishment. What has changed in that time? Indeed did Uefa themselves not take retrospective action against Eduardo for diving in a Champions League game (they did then go back on it after appeal)? Just further examples of the ludicrous inconcistencies in the game that can be easily avoided.
