Alan Pardew brought in five players from Ligue 1 in the January transfer window, but the Magpies remained locked in a Premier League relegation battle.

Newcastle's top-flight status was onlt confirmed after their 2-1 win over QPR on Sunday and Cabaye believes his fellow countrymen will improve after a full pre-season together.

"The new French players will have time to prepare in pre-season. That will help," the 27-year old told The Sun.

"It's very difficult to adapt quickly, especially moving in January.

"We have quality and can be much higher in the table."
