As a player, Poyet scored six times against Newcastle when playing for Chelsea and Tottenham, and has beaten Alan Pardew's side twice in the FA Cup as Brighton manager.

His first home game in charge is against the Magpies on October 27 and the Uruguayan hopes that he can put their arch-rivals to the sword once again, guiding the Black Cats away from the foot of the table.

"My life in England and my football career as a player and manager has been linked with Sunderland and Newcastle," he told the Sunderland Echo.

"A little bit more with Newcastle, to be honest, because somehow - I don't know why - I always seemed to score against them.

"They already hated me a little bit and now thy probably hate me a little bit more. That's football."

Poyet's most memorable moments against Newcastle were his two goals in the 2000 FA Cup semi-final and he hopes to provide some lasting memories for the Black Cats supporters.

"I always try to do the best for the club that I'm in," he added.

"I support the club I'm working for and become a fan and I think that will show with the passion and what the players show as well.

"Let's hope it's a good one and we can beat Newcastle in a couple of weeks."

terling needs to be told though that upon entering the Arsenal squad he will re-enact the final scene from Highlander where he will be thrown around a warehouse by cartoon dragons and then be a mere mortal that will only ever spend three to four weeks a season playing football and the rest on the physio's bed. There can be only one.....player available at The Emirates.

he game changed in our favour when Carrick came on. We were able to play further up the pitch due to having a player who can give and go with the ball and keep possession. Yet barkley made some runs and Townsend scored a good goal but carrick's inclusion and chiellini's withdrawal made the biggest difference to the flow of the game

o, you've not silenced anyone Andros, i'm afraid. We know you can score a great goal, and it's really handy to have your direct running and willingness to shoot on the bench. But until you can do the other things expected of a winger (beat the man, put a decent cross in, stay wide etc) then you can't expect more than a regular cameo. Wonderful goal though, what a hit! No wonder Buffon wanted the shirt.
