Newcastle slumped to their fifth straight defeat on Saturday as Swansea came from behind to grab a priceless victory at St James' Park and increase the pressure on the under-fire Pardew.

Wilfried Bony's last-gasp penalty condemned Newcastle to defeat after the striker had cancelled out Shola Ameobi's opener right on the stroke of half-time.

Pardew claimed whatever could go wrong did go wrong for his side as he also lost Papiss Cisse and Luuk De Jong to injury in the first half.

"We suffered two injuries at the start of the game which affected us no doubt and knocked us out of our gameplan to an extent," said Pardew.

"We were committed today, we showed some nice moments, we got the goal, but two errors at the end of each half cost us and they are costly because it's our fifth defeat.

"The fans I thought were good today. They stayed with us all the game, but unfortunately we haven't brought them home any points.

"We have been beaten by some good teams and we've probably not been good enough but today we were good enough to win this game and we should have come out of it with at least a point and I thought we should have won it.

"But as a team we have made some errors and it has cost us, Swansea got a break at the end of each half and they have capitalised through that."

Pardew admits it will be hard to lift his players after another home loss and he is desperate to get back to winning ways as soon as possible.

"There was not much to be said really other than we are going to have to work hard this week and try and get us a win before the end of the season for sure and the sooner the better," concluded Pardew.

lassic management. Build them up and then knock them back. Raise expectations and then dampen them. Create a dynamic where by you demand the most from your team, but where the team are given room to manoeuvre unexpected or unwanted results. Classy work by Van Gaal, he really reminds me a lot of me. A smart cookie, make no doubt.
