Mathieu Debuchy: Expected to arrive at Newcastle

The France international right-back has been a long-term target for Newcastle, but Debuchy is expected to finally arrive at St James' Park when the transfer window opens.

Pardew refused to speak specifically about the 27-year-old, but admitted the Magpies were hoping to strengthen their backline with a new recruit in the near future.

"Defensively we are so short, we need some defenders and that's what I've given my message to the board here," he said.

"They've got that loud and clear. I think we hope to see somebody sooner or later."

Debuchy was also linked with Real Madrid and Inter Milan earlier this year before Newcastle persuaded him to make the move to Tyneside.
