Steven Taylor & Yohan Cabaye: Among those currently sidelined at St James

The Magpies are desperate to return key men to their starting XI, with a forgettable run of results having dropped the club to within two points of the Premier League relegation zone.

Alan Pardew's side have suffered nine defeats in their last 11 outings and have taken nothing from their last three top-flight fixtures.

Addressing that slump at Carrow Road on Saturday is vital, but Newcastle will not be gambling on the fitness of their walking wounded.

Cabaye is among those closing in on a return to action but, along with Steven Taylor and Hatem Ben Arfa, he is not expected to figure against Norwich.

Pardew said: "We will push them as hard as we can.

"But we cannot bring them back, play them for one game and then they are out for five.

"When they do come back, they need to stay fit."
