Alan Pardew: Confident his side can be successful in Europa League

Pardew's men take on Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala next week in the first leg of their last-16 tie aiming to take a step closer to end their long wait for some silverware.

Newcastle are one of three Premier League clubs along with Chelsea and Tottenham still in the competition and Pardew feels his side have as good a chance of anyone else left in the tournament to reach the final in Amsterdam.

"Now we are in what I would call the real nitty-gritty of the competition, I think all 16 teams left are really focused on it.

"This is a big trophy to win for all the clubs, and I include the bigger ones such as Chelsea. Trust me on that.

"Do we have a chance to win? I think we have as good a chance as anyone else."
