Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse is convinced he can be the scourge of Premier League defences once again - provided he is given the chance to lead the United frontline.

Papiss Cisse: Craves a central striking role this season

The Senegal international is confident he can recapture the form which brought him 13 goals in his first 14 Newcastle appearances - as long as he is not asked to play in an unfamiliar wide role.

Cisse told the Chronicle: "I hope to play in my best position as much as I can. My best position is striker.

"I had never played right wing in my life. It was my first time at Newcastle. It was okay because I was doing it for the team.

"It was difficult last year because we were fighting not to go down. The year before, all of the players enjoyed the games and couldn't wait for the next one.

"We tried our best, but we hopefully will have all of our players back, not too many injuries.

"We have a good squad. I enjoy playing for this team. Next season, we will challenge.

"We have Hatem Ben Arfa, [Moussa] Sissoko and Yohan Cabaye, and the team can challenge at the higher end of the table."

Wigan's Arouna Kone is the latest player to be linked with a summer switch to Tyneside - following on the heels of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Darren Bent and Loic Remy - but as yet none of the interest has been translated into purchases.

s it the same people that complain about Chelsea that complain about Mayweather? You should by now know what to expect from both, if you can't appreciate how good they are at nullifying their opponents then don't watch them.

do concede though, that getting rid of Luiz has made them less entertaining. In the same way that driving with both eyes open is less exciting, but probably a good idea.
